The Pollution Control Department has stepped up the water quality forecasting and water quality crisis warning system to better solve the water pollution issue. Initially, the results of work on water pollution support and drainage capacity in the area of the Pa Sak River were presented. The department also explained its efforts to collect information about sources of the problem, to improve the forecasting of water quality, and to link the information to the National Hydro Informatics and Climate Data Center, so that every organization involved could obtain the data. The Community Development Department has provided information about attendance at the OTOP fair being held in honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother on 8-16 August 2020 at Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani. During the last five days, the amount of money spent was about 246 million baht, and 80,000 people participated. This event is also well-prepared to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Therefore, people who would like to visit can be assured of safety. (14/08/2020)
The Cabinet has approved two more substitute Songkran holidays on September 4 and 7, which will result in another long holiday next month. The intention is to make up for the suspending of Songkran holidays last April because of the COVID-19 pandemic in Thailand. Owing to the frequent rain, the Department of Disease Control has warned the public to beware of the Chikungunya virus, which is usually widespread during the rainy season. So far, in 2020, there have been 5,725 patients from 65 provinces. The greatest spread happens in the central region, followed by the North and the Northeast region. The provinces that have the most patients from the disease are Chanthaburi, followed by Uthai Thani and Lamphun. The department has advised the public to keep areas around their houses clean and eliminate puddles, which are the mosquitoes' breeding ground. (14/08/2020)

Fifty-two leading Thai artists express their gratitude to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother, for initiating projects to improve peoples quality of life and for showing sympathy toward artists, by presenting artwork to celebrate Mothers Day and to honor Her Majesty the Queen on the occasion of Her Majestys 88th birthday. Her Majesty introduced numerous projects to promote Thai arts and crafts, as well as projects that use works by many artists. The gallery was also initiated upon Her Majestys request. The 69 paintings by artists such as Amrit Chusuwan, Sompop Budtarad, Nopphadon Chotsiri, Jitsing Somboon, and Sutee Kunavichayanont will be exhibited till the end of August 2020 at the Pacific City Club on the 28th floor of the Two Pacific Place Building on Sukhumvit Road (BTS-Nana Station), Bangkok. The gallery is open for the public from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and admission is free. (13/08/2020)

The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has stepped up the development of an improved rice seed production process. The Rice Department, in cooperation with the Community Rice Center, will be the main sector to produce rice seeds of good quality, and it will ensure that the country is able to meet the demand of rice cultivation in each year. In addition, the Prime Minister is concerned about Thai agriculturists and has instructed the ministry to accelerate the ways to solve this issue. (13/08/2020)
On the Auspicious Occasion of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother's birthday anniversary on 12 August 2020, Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has presided over the alms-giving ceremony for 89 Buddhist monks at Sanam Luang ceremonial ground in Bangkok. The Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has urged the public not to believe fake news about the US military traveling around Bangkok, which has been spreading on the internet. The CCSA insists that all of the 110 US soldiers are quarantined in the Alternative State Quarantine for 14 days without going out. They have been tested and have had negative results. Moreover, the ASQ hotel has been verified by the Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Defense. (12/08/2020)

The Prime Minister and Defense Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has invited the public to join the OTOP fair, which is taking place from 8 to 16 August 2020 at Challenger Hall 2, Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani. This event is being held in honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother on the occasion of her birthday celebration, 12 August 2020. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made an announcement on 10 August concerning a Thai official and a local staff member at the Royal Thai Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and Manama, Bahrain who were reported to be infected with COVID-19. The Prime Minister ordered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide good care for them. They have already been sent to a hospital and are currently under treatment. The Royal Thai Embassies and the Thai consulates the first organizations that more than 1.6 million Thai people who live outside the country contact when they need help have been working to facilitate over 60,000 Thai repatriates returning home since last April. Moreover, Thai officials around the world are continuing to make visits, give survival bags, promote online health and mental health consulting, and cooperate with local organizations to assist Thai people, so that they feel comfortable, as if they are at home. The Thailand Board of Investment has kicked off a new campaign for 2020, "Think Resilience, Think Thailand." There are four main strategies that will enhance investment, help the country to cope with COVID-19 effects, and strengthen Thailand as ASEAN's investment hub: Diversity, Ecosystem, Location, and Supply Chain. Now, Thailand is moving forward to implement sustainable industries with high technologies. As the heart of ASEAN, Thailand will use this strategic plan to increase the number of investors who can access the ASEAN market, which has more than 630 million people, making it the world's third-largest market, after China and India. A government organization, namely the Tourism Authority of Thailand, is proceeding with setting up health standards for the project called AmazingThailand Safety&Health Administration, or SHA, in order to give assurance to tourists after the lifting of the lockdown that was imposed to control COVID-19. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recently updated its COVID-19 Travel Recommendations information. For the last five months, the CDC has warned US travelers to avoid non-essential travel to all international locations. The CDC now has a list of seven destinations where the 'COVID-19 Risk is Low,' including Thailand. (10/08/2020)
The Office of Agricultural Economics (OAE) has joined hands with The Thai Chamber of Commerce in order to develop Thailands capabilities in agricultural economic information and big data systems. The two organizations have together signed an MOU to develop a big data system that contains agricultural economic information. The signing also aims to increase the efficiency of staff and academics of both departments. Meanwhile, the cooperation is also a new approach to agricultural work that will apply more market principles and technologies. (10/08/2020)
In recognition of the International Day of the Worlds Indigenous Peoples on August 9, which was declared by the United Nations, Chiang Mai has held a major event to mark the Indigenous Peoples Day of Thailand. The event was attended by indigenous people from more than 22 tribes. There were booths selling tribal products and traditional food, along with cultural performances, and a forum to exchange knowledge between tribal representatives and agencies working on tribal issues. Thai Airways and Thai Smile Airways have been awarded the "Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration: SHA certification. They are the first airlines in Thailand that have received the award. The Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health, in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office for Thailand, United Nations Children's Fund for Thailand (UNICEF), and Thai Breastfeeding Center Foundation, are marking a campaign to promote breastfeeding on the occasion of Mothers Day and World Breastfeeding Week, under the concept of Empower Parents Enable Breastfeeding, which will raise the publics awareness of the value of breastfeeding, including encouraging breastfeeding in the first six months. Doi Inthanon National Park, the highest spot in Thailand, located in Chiang Mai province, has reopened the visiting site for tourists after its closing during the COVID-19 outbreak. Members of the public are recommended to continue washing hands, wearing a mask, and keeping physical distancing for sanitization and for preventing the spread of disease in tourism spots. The Prime Minister has commanded associated organizations to design guidelines permitting foreign nationals to enter Thailand under precise measures mandated by the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), in order to allow economic activities to proceed. The first target groups to be allowed to enter the country are trade persons conducting business negotiations, as well as technicians and installers of specific machinery, whose visits are generally short and less than the 14-day quarantine period. Meanwhile, the Government will host a mobile Cabinet meeting in Rayong on 24-25 August 2020 to encourage public confidence in visiting Rayong after the COVID-19 situation last month. (06/08/2020)
