Thailand and the Russian Federation have agreed to increase annual bilateral trade to 10 billion US dollars by 2016. Trade and investment cooperation between Thailand and Russia was raised for discussion during the official visit to Thailand by the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Mr. Dmitry Medvedev, on 7-8 April 2015. On this occasion, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and the Russian Prime Minister witnessed the signing of five memorandums of understanding to enhance cooperation on energy, tourism, culture, anti-drug operations, and investment promotion. The Department of Land Transport (DLT) has launched the anti-road accident campaign for the upcoming Songkran festival. The campaign will be active during the annual Thai New Year holiday period. The DLT has declared 2015 as the year of speed control under the theme Slow Down, Save Your Live, which has been designed to encourage motorists to realise speeding can cost both lives and properties. The Thai government has successfully integrated the key dimensions related to the issue of human trafficking, which are migrant workers, forced labor, and child labor. This is a great step forward in tackling labor issues and human trafficking more effectively. In Thailands situation, the dimension of forced labor and human trafficking links very closely with that of migrant workers, since some illegal migrant workers are at risk of becoming victims of human trafficking. Buddhist Thais, comprising officials, business people, students, and members of the public in Thailand and India, as well as a number of Indian Buddhists, were ordained as monks and novices in a mass ordination program in celebration of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorns 60th birthday anniversary, 2 April 2015. A commemorative 100-baht banknote for the celebration of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorns 60th birthday will be introduced to honor the Princess for her contributions to the nation and the Thai people. The special banknote will be available for the general public at the Bank of Thailand, Government Savings Bank and all commercial banks in Thailand starting from 2 April 2015. (01/04/2015)
The Government has prioritized the suppression of human trafficking as part of the national agenda. The enforcement of laws and regulations concerning laborers and human traffickers is becoming stricter. The traffickers could face life imprisonment and the death penalty if a victim dies, and 20 years in prison or a fine up to 400,000 baht if a victim has been severely injured. (01/04/2015)
To celebrate Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorns 60th birthday anniversary on 2 April 2015, the general public is invited to wear purple, the color of Saturday, the birthday of the princess, during the entire month of April as an expression of love and respect for Her Royal Highness. Safety and security measures during the Songkran holiday have been set up to ensure safety for the local and foreign travelers. Military officers will facilitate commuters, and help prevent road accidents and criminal activities. Tourist police will be on duty at the major destinations across the country such as Pattaya, Phuket, and Chiang Mai. More CCTVs and lights will also be installed in the high-risk areas. (25/03/2015)
Several governmental agencies will join One-Stop Service Centers in selected Central Shopping Complexes, where people conveniently make applications and receive services in one place. It is an approach under the new State Service Facilitating Act aiming to improve the standard of public services. Provincial and local administration organizations and related agencies are collaborating to ease the air pollution problem in the northern provinces of Thailand, especially in Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son. Spraying water into the air, conducting artificial rain operations, distributing face masks, and monitoring and patrolling wildfire in the areas at risk are measures that can decrease the smog and return air quality to a safe level. The annual, regal, candle-lit ceremony, to be presided over by Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, will take place at Sanam Luang in Bangkok on the evening of 12 August, and in other provinces the ceremony will take place at the provincial city halls or major venues. The nationwide Bike for Mom campaign, chaired by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, will also take place simultaneously on 16 August in every province, starting at 3 p.m. (10/07/2014)

The Department of Disease Control has issued a series of warnings against the spread of dengue fever during the rainy season. Since the frequent rainfalls have started, the number of patients infected by the dengue virus has increased. This year the total number of infections is 42,900 cases and 35 have died. Five provinces, namely Rayong, Trad, Petchaburi, Tak, and Ang Thong, are the areas where the disease has been reported most. (10/07/2014)
