The 4th Bangkok Triennale International Print and Drawing Exhibition, the first international art exhibition, celebrated the Auspicious Occasion of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorns 5th Cycle Birthday Anniversary on 2 April 2015 and on the Occasion of celebrating 72nd Anniversary of Silpakorn University organized by Silpakorn University in cooperation with Bangkok Art and Culture Centre and Office of Contemporary Art and Culture, Ministry of Culture from 14 May - 2 August 2015 (except on Monday) at Main Gallery, 8th floor (28/05/2015)
As Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam, the amendment to the Interim Constitution is likely to be carried out in June. It is meant that the national referendum is expected to take place in January 2016. After that, about four months will be needed for the process of drafting organic laws. Then a general election will be held within 90 days after the announcement of the organic laws. (28/05/2015)
The Buddhism Promotion Week, from 29 May to 9 June 2015, will be held nationwide, aiming to make Buddhists understand the Five Precepts of the Lord Buddha and cherish them in their everyday life. Several activities will be held at Sanam Luang, such as moral education for youths, mass chanting competition, exhibition on ethical communities, meditation, food offering to monks, Buddhist sermons, and a candlelight procession. Buddhists are also encouraged to do good deeds and wear white clothes on their visits to nearby temples on the occasion of Visakha Puja Day, on 1 June 2015. (26/05/2015)
The Thai government has set up an operation vessel in order to give humanitarian assistance to Rohingya people, especially those remaining adrift in the sea since May 25. Rohingya migrants will be given basic aid by the standby official ship, and their nationality will be verified on board. The proper medical treatment onshore will also be given to those with critical health conditions. (26/05/2015)
The Government has approved three main measures to meet the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards within the ICAO deadline. The measures include adding 48 technical specialist positions to the Department of Civil Aviation, improving the structure of related civil aviation authorities as a whole, and standardizing Thailands aviation laws. Thailand will hold a meeting on Irregular Migration in the Indian Ocean on 29 May 2015 in Bangkok. Senior officials from the 15 countries primarily affected by this issue, as well as the representatives from concerned international organizations, have been invited to join the meeting. They include Myanmar, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Australia and the United States. The representatives will exchange information and intelligence to join hands in tackling irregular sea migration and human trafficking. (25/05/2015)
Thailand is participating in the World Exposition Milano 2015 in Milan, Italy from 1 May to 31 October 2015. The Thailand Pavilion presents an exhibition under the concept of "Nourishing and Delighting the World" to build confidence in Thai agricultural and food products and confirm its readiness to become the kitchen of the world, as well as to expand the market of agricultural products on the world stage. The Royal Thai Government will hold a meeting on Irregular Migration in the Indian Ocean on 29 May 2015, in Bangkok. Senior officials from 15 countries that are most affected will be invited to the meeting. Participants in the meeting will exchange information and intelligence with regard to irregular sea migration. Joint law enforcement action may be implemented to eradicate cross-national crime networks. Participating countries will be requested to disseminate information and organize campaigns in a bid to put an end to crime networks that thrive on human trafficking (21/05/2015)
The Thai Quality Vegetable and Fruit Festival at Phadung Krung Kasem Canal, near the Government House, has been running since 6 May and will continue until 31 May. This event allows the public to directly buy fresh and high- quality produce from fruit and veggies farmers, as well as creating more income for the farmers. The theme of the festival for 11-17 May is Week of Tasty Pineapples, Watermelon, Grapefruit and Lychee. (14/05/2015)
The Annual Royal Ploughing Ceremony was held at Sanam Luang, near the Grand Palace on May 13. The predictions for the coming crop this year are plentiful water, good harvests in higher grounds, and abundant of food production. Eleven species of rice grains, totaling 2,520 kilograms, were also distributed to farmers and other people participating in the ceremony. (14/05/2015)
Special economic zones (SEZs), designated areas for the free flow of people, trade,and investment, will be developed as a part of the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015. The first phase of the SEZs includes five border provinces, namely Sa Kaeo, Trat, Tak , Mukdahan, Nong Khai and Songkhla.Besides creating jobs, income, and higher living standards for Thai people near borders, the SEZs will create more trade and investment opportunities for foreign investors. It also allows migrant workers from neighboring countries to work in Thailand and return to their countries on the same day. (06/05/2015)
After the discovery of bodies of Rohingya and Bangladeshi migrants buried in Songkhla province, the Thai government continues searching for more jungle camps at the border areas, and will expedite the investigation to find the perpetrators involved in transnational human trafficking networks. Human trafficking is a major and urgent concern that the Government is attempting to eradicate. (06/05/2015)
Education ministers from ASEAN will gather in Chonburi province in May 2015 for the 48th Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Council Conference (SEAMEC.) The 48th SEAMEC will be held from May 6 to 9 at the Royal Cliff Hotels Group, Jomtien-Pattaya, Chonburi Province, Thailand. They will discuss education policies, initiatives, and cooperation in this region. (24/04/2015)
A total of 6,589 projects have been approved to receive funds from the "One Million Baht, One Tambon" project, dispersed to 3,051 drought-affected villages in 58 provinces during this summer to help generate income among farmers and to help them in agricultural promotion. More than 2.6 million households will benefit from this governmental intervention. (23/04/2015)
The Ministry of Energy is promoting awareness of energy-saving practices to encourage energy-efficient consumption at home. The recommended basic energy-saving practices include turning off the lights and unplugging appliances after use, choosing energy-efficient light bulbs, adjusting the air conditioning temperature to 25 degrees Celsius, cleaning air conditioning filters regularly, and checking the car engine before travelling. The Cabinet has acknowledged the action plan to develop Thailand as an ASEAN Cultural Center, as proposed by the Ministry of Culture. The many activities and programs will be created by four major organizations: SEAMEO SPAFA, or the Regional Center for Archaeology and Fine Arts, the Asia-Pacific Regional Field Training Center on Underwater Cultural Heritage, ICOMOS Thailand Association, and the Thailand Cultural Center in Bangkok (23/04/2015)
Thailand and China have agreed to develop railway projects along four routes, connecting the ASEAN region with China. These projects are part of the celebration of the 40th anniversary of Thai-Chinese diplomatic relations in 2015. (23/04/2015)
The Ivory Tusks Act, which has been in force since January, requires that any person who owns ivory tusks and ivory products declare his or her possession and register at the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation in Bangkok and related upcountry offices by 21 April. This legal measure aims to stop the transnational illegal ivory trade and to prevent Thailand from being blacklisted in trade (20/04/2015)
More than 1,800 new doctors will be dispatched to perform their duties at central, general and community hospitals across the country this year. The placement of new doctors will help fulfill the needs of medical care in each region, as well as providing an opportunity for new doctors to utilize their valuable skills. (20/04/2015)
The Ministry of Interior has launched the Directing Center for Road Accident Prevention and Reduction, which will help ensure strict enforcement of traffic laws during the Songkran Festival. The center is given the responsibility of coordinating with other relevant agencies and units in an effort to stave off road accidents and minimize casualties. (10/04/2015)
