The Ministry of Science and Technology has announced that the Association of University Technology Managers will hold AUTM Asia 2016 on 15-18 March 2016 in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The theme of the conference is Gateway to ASEAN, an Emerging Dynamic Market. The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, with the cooperation of Chiang Mai Province and Maejo University, will organize National Agriculture Day. This event is under the theme Happy Agriculture and part of the 2016 policy to reduce costs and increase organic farming. Bloomberg News reported in its "Misery Index" for 2016 that Thailand has topped the list of "15 Happiest Economies in the World" for two consecutive years. Bloomberg stated that Thailand has a low rate of unemployment and inflation, and its Misery Index is at only 2.2 points. (26/02/2016)
The Ministry of Culture, in cooperation with fourteen organizations from both the government and private sector, will organize The 234th Year of Rattanakosin City under Royal Benevolence on 20-24 April 2016 at Sanam Luang Grounds. The aim is to commemorate the Chakri Dynasty, the founder of Rattanakosin City 234 years ago. The activities will encourage Thai people to learn more about the Chakri Dynastys history and the diversity of culture in Thai society. (26/02/2016)
The Ministry of Industry is preparing a technology road map in order to determine the direction of product development for elderly people in Thai society. The official survey found that many useful devices, such as robot services, tele-health systems, and tele-medicine systems, will be in huge demand in the near future. The Ministry of Finance announced the National e-Payment Project to increase the efficiency of payments. People can contact government welfare and payment services directly, which will reduce the cost and use of cash in the payment system. Any ID is the first system, which will be used with an ID number or mobile telephone in transferring money, purchasing of products, elders welfare allowance, and transportation ticket system. It is estimated that people can register to use this system in the second quarter of this year and start to use in September. (24/02/2016)
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan will pay official visits to Russia and the Republic of Belarus on 23-27 February 2016. Apart from expanding stability and economic cooperation, the visit will be a preparation for the Thai Prime Minister to participate in the upcoming ASEAN-Russia summit, held on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of ASEAN-Russia relations in May. The official opening ceremony of the ASEAN + 3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) was held at AMROs office, located in the Monetary Authority of Singapore Building in Singapore. AMRO was established by ASEAN member countries, the Peoples Republic of China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea in order to be better prepared to minimize risks of economic turmoil. Tourism in Pattaya is recovering. The number of tourists from Europe, Scandinavia, and Russia increased during the beginning of this year, many of them golfers having a long stay in Thailand. The factor that makes them choose Pattaya is the low cost of living, which still attracts many tourists. However, the Chinese continue to be the main tourists in Pattaya. (18/02/2016)
Deputy spokesman of the Prime Ministers Office Maj. Gen. Werachon Sukondhapatipak said that Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, who is now attending the ASEAN-U.S. Summit in the United States, shared his ideas on the conflicts in the South China Sea with his ASEAN counterparts and the U.S. President. The Premier felt that this was a sensitive issue and must be dealt with cautiously in order to maintain peace, stability and growth in the region. Moreover, he called for negotiations to resolve the conflicts, while ASEAN should act in unity to demonstrate the blocs strength and creativity in bringing the issue to a close. (17/02/2016)
The Public Health Minister, Clinical Professor Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, revealed that Thailands public health reform had been planned in accordance with global health system development and in preparation for Thailand becoming an aging society. In the next 25 years, the number of elderly people is estimated to be one-third of the countrys total population. The four issues in public health reform include service reform, prevention and promotion reform, financing reform, and governance reform. (17/02/2016)
CAT Telecom is moving forward to integrate network systems for an innovative smart city named IOT City Innovation Center. The MOU was signed with the National Innovation Agency (NIA) and Thai Embedded System Association (TESA) on the occasion of launching the center. The Ministry of Commerce announced Weaving Street as a pilot project. It is a connectivity economy project, which will connect organizations in both the government and private sector in order to bring Thai heritage and local wisdom from each community as a way to develop and upgrade the value of their products. This project will begin at Baan Sannuan-Nok, Huai Rat, Buri Ram Province. It is estimated that the communities in the country will earn 58,000 million baht from this project. (15/02/2016)
Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha will join U.S.-ASEAN summit meeting at Sunnylands in Rancho Mirage, California, the United States on 14-18 February 2016. The summit will include the discussion on, Promoting Regional Prosperity through Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Regional Strategic Outlook, and, Protecting Peace, Prosperity, and Security in the Asia-Pacific. The meeting will also strengthen the relationship between ASEAN and U.S. to the level of a strategic partnership. (12/02/2016)
The Department of Disease Control has predicted that this year the number of dengue fever patients might reach 160,000 if no preventive measures are taken against the ailment. The department has, therefore, instructed all provincial offices to eradicate standing water,which is the breeding ground of the Aedesa egypti mosquitoes carrying the virus that causes the disease. Districts that are able to reduce the pandemic by more than 70% and have no reports of new patients for a period of 28 days will be declared disease-free areas. (11/02/2016)
The Ministry of Transport has announced that two motorway projects Bang Pa-In to Nakhon Ratchasima, and Bang Yai to Kanchanaburi are still in the management process. The areas physical features will be reviewed to update information about the land. It is estimated that these two projects can be proposed to the Board of Environmental Impact Assessment around the middle of 2016. (10/02/2016)

The Ministry of Public Health, in cooperation with Ministry of Tourism and Sports, has initiated the Medical and Wellness Tourism Project. This project aims to develop hot springs and spa towns in order to stimulate local tourism and economy, with the pilot area in Krabi province. Thailand is ready to host the 2nd ASEAN Conference on Biodiversity with the theme "Biodiversity for Sustainable Development" on15-19 February in Bangkok. This conference aims to provide a forum for exchanging perspectives on initiatives that address biodiversity issues in the region and for discussing steps forward in advancing the ASEAN biodiversity.
