On 11 August 2016, the Public Relations Department organizes a concert to celebrate the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty the Queens 7th Cycle Birthday Anniversary. The concert features young artists from schools and universities in Bangkok including the Royal Thai Army School of Music, Satriwithaya School, Bansomdej Chaopraya Rajabhat University, and Rattana Bundit University. The Ministry of Industry has announced that Thailand-based Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) will benefit from the expansion of an existing auto tariff-free zone to ASEAN member countries in 2018. According to global market research, Thailand is a regional production and export hub for the worlds top automakers, including Japans Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, and Nissan, as well as U.S.-based General Motors (primarily Chevrolet), and Ford. Various activities will be organized to mark the occasion of Her Majesty the Queens 7th Cycle Birthday Anniversary. On 12 August 2016 at 7:29 p.m., the candle lighting ceremony to pay tribute to Her Majesty will be held at the Sanam Luang ceremonial site. On 17 August 2016 at 8:30 a.m., the Government will hold religious ceremonies to be performed by five major religions, namely Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Brahmanism-Hinduism, and Sikhism, at the Thailand Cultural Center. Also, people have been encouraged to wear blue shirts, the color of Friday, the birthday of Her Majesty, and to display on their premises the blue flag bearing the royal ceremonial emblem. The Thailand Post has prepared a special commemorative stamp to mark Her Majesty the Queens 84th birthday anniversary. The special stamp comes in a seven-sided shape. The writing on the stamp of Her Majesty the Queen is in embossed letters, printed over silver foil, the same as the stamp with His Majesty the Kings image but using 22 karat gold leaf. The stamps will be made available to the public on Mothers Day, 12 August, at the price of 100 baht each. The stamps are sold as a packaged set at 117 baht. (10/08/2016)
The Ministry of Transport has announced that Thailand and Japan have signed a memorandum on cooperation for a high-speed rail project in Thailand. The two countries are going to start work on a basic plan next year, in which the railway will connect Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Furthermore, the two sides agreed to implement transportation and railway projects in Thailands Southern Economic Corridor. (10/08/2016)
The Ministry of Finance is considering setting up duty-free shopping centers in Special Economic Zones (SEZs) of border areas, to promote border economies. The study into the possibility of opening duty-free shopping centers is expected to be completed within this year. The SEZ in Nong Khai province is poised to become the first SEZ to have a duty-free shopping center, which will be established near the first Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge. (09/08/2016)

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has launched the 84 Perspectives of Thailand campaign in order to give foreign creative writers and photographers a chance to enjoy an intimate understanding of the different regions of Thailand and the sheer diversity of culture and heritage. And by giving them a look at projects initiated by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, they are able to better understand some of Thailands grassroots communities and the important work carried out by the Royal Family to boost the welfare of the Thai people. The Election Commission has launched an activity called Big Day in six provinces, namely Chiang Mai, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Songkhla, Pattani, and Chonburi, to promote the constitutional referendum to be held on 7 August 2016. The EC Chairman, Mr. Supachai Somcharoen, confirmed the readiness of all units concerned in more than 90,000 polling stations, which will be staffed by EC and security officials. (05/08/2016)

ASEAN Day 2016 aims to increase awareness of the ASEAN Community among general public as ASEAN has officially become a Community at the beginning of this year. The Election Commission (EC) encourages Thai citizens to come out and exercise their rights in the August 7th constitutional referendum. The Election Commissioner said that the EC is now 95 percent ready to hold the referendum. People can find out the locations of polling stations across the country via the mobile application Dao Nua, as well as details on the draft constitution through another application, Chalat Ru Prachamati. The Election Commission (EC) has launched a referendum campaign in the southern province of Yala, encouraging the local people to go to the polls on August 7th. Officials and volunteers will double their efforts in helping people understand the draft constitution, the upcoming public referendum, and the additional question attached to the referendum. The Government Public Relations Department (PRD), in cooperation with the Foundation for the Promotion of Supplementary Occupations and Related Techniques (SUPPORT) of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand, will organize a concert to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Sirikits seventh-cycle, or 84th, birthday anniversary. The 85 national artists, comprising international music artists,country music artists, and contemporary music artists,will join in the significant event. Apart from the concert, there will be an exhibition to celebrate Her Majesty the Queens birthday which aims to promote and support the integration of vocations, leading to the creation of folk arts and crafts in line with Her Majestys projects. The Cabinet has agreed to the construction of additional segments of the Red Line suburban railway system, with the bidding process expected to take place this August. The Light Red Line will be constructed on the Bang Sue - Phaya Thai - Makkasan - Hua Mak segment, totaling 25.9 kilometers. The Light Red Line and the Dark Red Line, which are both part of the Red Line suburban railway project, will greatly help alleviate traffic congestion in Bangkok. The two lines will be composed of elevated, ground-level, and underground tracks. (29/07/2016)
