An OTOP tourism village has been officially opened in Samut Sakhon province to promote tourism and improve the livelihood of local residents. Visitors can see a variety of famous local products at Talad Rim Khlong Pantai Norasing and Talad Pracharat markets. In addition, the OTOP tourism village scheme was first introduced in 2006 by the Community Development Department to promote local tourism and products. There are currently 74 OTOP tourism villages in Thailand. (20/09/2016)
The Ministry of Commerce has announced the Prime Ministers Export Award 2016, which is the highest official award annually granted to outstanding Thai-owned exporters. This year, the award is offered in seven categories: (1) Best Exporters: winners from 17 companies, (2) Best Green Innovation: winners from four companies, (3) Best Thai Brand: winners from 13 companies, (4) Best Design: winners from five companies, (5) Best Service Enterprise Award: winners from three companies, (6) Best OTOP Export Recognition: winners from five companies, and (7) Best Halal: winners from three companies. Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha will attend the 71st United Nations General Assembly on 18-25 September 2016. On 23 September, the Premier will chair the G77 Ministerial Meeting, which consists of members from 134 developing countries, and will deliver a keynote speech titled The Sustainable Development Goals: The Universal Push to Transform Our World. The Ministry of Transport announced that the cabinet approved a change to the aviation agreement between Cambodia and Thailand that removed restriction on airline seat capacity between the two countries. Previously, the bilateral agreement was limited to a maximum of 5,300 seats per week so the new agreement eliminates the seat capacity ceiling allowing airlines to offer as many services as commercially viable. Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, on 16 September 2016, visited Phuket province in the South. While there, the Premier presided over the opening of a new international passenger terminal at Phuket International Airport and the opening of the Start Up Thailand & Digital Thailand 2016 event. He also chaired a joint committee meeting of government and private sector organizations, concerning regional economic issues. (19/09/2016)
The two-year performance report of the Government of General Prayut Chan-o-cha was released on 15 September 2016 in order to reveals its performance during the past two year and the future plans. The PM stated that the key achievements made by the Government during the past year were the strengthening of capacity and competitiveness, including economic growth, which has steadily risen in the past two years; moreover, Thailand was ranked the least miserable country for the second year in a row out of a total of 74 economies surveyed by Bloomberg. The Government is moving forward to bring back full democracy, and seek resolutions to enduring problems through law enactment, national reform, and reinforcement of the private sector for socio-economic mobilization in line with the Thailand 4.0 policy. Thailand will hold a trade fair at Phnom Penh's Koh Pich Exhibition and Convention Center between 15 and 18 September 2016 to provide a platform for local Cambodian businessmen and those from Thailand. There will be around 200 companies showing their products, which include clothes, construction materials, food and beverages, utensils, leather products, and electronic devices. This business platform will also contribute to boosting trade between Cambodia and Thailand. (14/09/2016)
The Department of International Trade Promotion, in collaboration with logistics businesses in ASEAN, will organize the TILOG LOGISTIX 2016 to exchange innovations and create a network of entrepreneurs in logistics and related industries. Bangkok has been named ''City of Charms'' and was selected to represent Thailand at the 13th annual China-ASEAN Expo in Nanning, China, held on September 11-14. Deputy Prime Minister Prajin Junthong said that Bangkok features charms and modern conveniences and that the Government will continue to promote Bangkok as a safe city for the country's tourist industry. The Government, through the Ministry of Industry, has launched an SME Rescue Center in the South in order to increase the capability of SMEs to effectively compete with other countries. This is related to the Governments policy to make SMEs the key factor in moving Thailand toward the 4.0 scheme. (14/09/2016)
During the meeting between Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, and Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia, on 9 September 2016, the Thai Prime Minister affirmed Thailands intent to cooperate with Malaysia in increasing the mutual trade volume to 30 billion US dollars by the year 2018. Both parties also hailed the establishment of the Malaysia-Thailand Business Council in August 2016. (13/09/2016)
Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, on 9 September 2016, welcomed Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia, on the occasion of his official visit to Thailand. The two counterparts affirmed close and comprehensive relations between the two countries with regular exchange of high-level visits and cordial people-to-people relations along the border areas. On security cooperation, the Thai Prime Minister expressed appreciation for Malaysias constructive role in the southern border peace talk process, and reiterated the Thai governments commitment to addressing problems through peaceful means and participation of all concerned sectors. The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology announced that the cabinet has officially approved two plans on the digital economy and digital government for the next three years. The digital economy is the first phase of the countrys 20-year digital Thailand plan which aims to enhance rural infrastructure nationwide. The second plan, for digital government, aims to improve services and move them onto a single government portal in order to encourage all government agencies to share data with one another. The Ministry of Education plans to reduce class hours and promote English language learning in schools nationwide in order to improve academic performance of Thai student in English language skills. The Ministry also aims to produce 13,500 qualified English teachers before the end of 2018. (07/09/2016)
The Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister are set to attend the ASEAN Summit, along with other related conferences, in Lao PRD on 6-9 September 2016. The ASEAN Summit will be held with the theme Turning Vision into Reality for a Dynamic ASEAN Community. It is the first meeting to be held after the official realization of the ASEAN Community. Leaders of ASEAN countries and partner countries are expected to discuss mutual development and persistent regional issues. (06/09/2016)
The Ministry of Public Health has opened nine medicine clinics at the major cities in the special economic zones and tourist destinations, including Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Surat Thani, Songkhla, Nong Khai, Nakhon Phanom, and Mukdahan, in order to prevent diseases and health hazards that commonly occur when traveling. These travel medicine clinics will be fully operational from 12 September 2016. (06/09/2016)
The Ministry of Labor has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives in order to improve labor practices and standards in the poultry industry. The cooperation aims to support and enhance companies with better labor practices to improve the image of poultry farming in the country after the poor publicity about slave labor, which has caused concern in Thailand. Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha recently attended the G20 Summit in Hangzhou, the Peoples Republic of China. As the Chairman of G77, the Prime Minister expressed his vision by confirming that Thailand was ready to act as a link between the G20 and G77 groups and expressed the view that G20 nations should rely on existing experience and resources in driving their inclusive economic growth agenda. Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha will attend the 28th-29th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Vientiane, Lao PDR, on 6-8 September 2016. This year, under the theme Turning Vision into Reality for a Dynamic ASEAN Community, the ASEAN leaders will discuss ways and means to build an ASEAN Community that is resilient and sustainable, where everyone forges ahead together, leaving no one behind, for the benefit of the Community. They will also exchange views on how to strengthen ASEAN unity and maintain ASEAN centrality in the regional architecture, as well as regional and international issues of common concern and interest.
