The Ministry of Commerce has organized an exhibition in honor of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej under the theme "His Majesty's Brilliance in Intellectual Property." The event is taking place at Central Plaza Udon Thani department store on 4-10 December 2016. It presents his great inventions, along with many royal projects initiated by His Majesty the late King. The Department of Fisheries is implementing policies to lift the European Union's yellow card on Thailand's fishing industry by organized a training program for its personnel at fish quarantine centers in order to meet quality standards set by the EU. Bhumibol Dam and Tak province are holding an exhibition to pay tribute to His Majesty the late King Bhumibol. The exhibition -- which includes projects initiated by the late King, a model of royal projects, the "tree of goodness," an exhibition of the late King's personal belongings, and more -- will be held at the water management building of Bhumibol Dam until 7 December 2016. The Office of the Consumer Protection Board has consulted with 11 concerned organizations on measures to control the rent of dormitories. It is believed that dormitory owners include charges for electricity and water supply, which raises the rent unfairly, because they do not calculate the actual rates. The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security announced that Thailand will be hosting the East Asia Ministerial Forum on Families and Gender Equality on the topic A Family-Friendly Society: A Contribution to the Achievement of SDGs through Families and Gender Equality from 21 to 23 December 2016 at the Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok. The aim is to use this meeting as a stage for exchanging experiences and policy information, creating a framework, and working on development of women and families for progress in society. The Community Development Department, Ministry of Interior, reported that OTOP Wisdom to the World at Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem, which had been organized by the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and which ended on 27 November 2016, has earned 60 million baht. It is estimated that there were more than 80,000 visitors attending this event. In addition, the Ministry of Interior would like to welcome the public to visit OTOP City 2016, which will be held at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani from 18 to 26 December 2016. (06/12/2016)

Suvarnabhumi International Airport is preparing measures to accommodate travelers during the tourist high season. An average of 965 flights are expected each day, a 9.52-percent increase from the same period last year. There will be 173,000 passengers per day, or a 26.4-percent increase from the same period last year. Bhumibol Bridge will be closed to traffic on 5 December 2016 to facilitate a merit-making ceremony to pay tribute to His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej on the occasion of his 89th birthday anniversary. Apart from an alms-giving ceremony to 999 monks, a mass singing of the royal anthem will be performed. Each participant will also be given a bag containing soil mixed from the late Kings royal projects and agricultural stations across the country. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has designated December 4 as Thai Environment Day. The day focuses on raising awareness of environmental issues so people are encouraged to engage in eco-friendly activities, for example, plant a tree or ride a bike instead of using public transportation as well as destroy water hyacinth in the river. Thailands Hom Mali rice was awarded the Worlds Best Rice Award 2016, at the World Rice Conference, held by an American organization The Rice Trader on 18 November 2016 in Chiang Mai province. The second and third places were awarded to Cambodia and the United States, respectively. (02/12/2016)
The Ministry of Public Health has enhanced medical services for newborn babies by upgrading the service quality and health facilities near their homes, as well as providing many training courses for physicians, nurses, and public health staff. The Department of Agricultural Extension has released a progress report for small and micro community enterprise (SMCE) promotion. The report shows that there are 80,761 SMCEs nationwide, among which the largest category is 23,352 SMCEs in plantations. To promote SMCEs, the ministry will focus on the task of increasing agricultural production capacity and processing, increasing the value of agricultural goods, and establishing measures and guidelines for SMCE promotion, as well as transferring agricultural technology to agriculturists to improve their income generation. Now that 50 days have gone by since the passing of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, with the cabinet, spouses, officials, and staff, made merit to nine monks on 1 December 2016. As the chairman of the ceremony, he presided over the candle lighting ceremony to worship the Triple Gem and to request precepts. Afterwards, he offered food and articles that were suitable for alms to 98 monks at Government House in remembrance of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. (02/12/2016)

Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha opened the "Zero Waste" Learning Center in Ban Pong Srinakorn, Chiang Rai province -- which won a national waste management award from the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion -- during his inspection trip to the northern province. The "Zero Waste" Learning Center is the prototype for learning how a rural village can manage its garbage problem by recycling and turning garbage into organic fertilizer or manure for cultivation purposes.
