The State Railway of Thailand will prepare 244 trains and add more than 20 Rapid trains and Special Express trains to facilitate 100,000 travelers per day during the New Year's period from 29 December 2016 to 4 January 2017. (22/12/2016)
Owing to the heavy fog in Mae Hong Son, which caused all flights to be delayed for 30 minutes to 1 hour, the director of Mae Hong Son Airport advises travelers, especially those who have a connecting flight, to plan their travel and give themselves at least three hours to avoid any problems. The National Blood Center of the Thai Red Cross Society encourages people to donate their blood for saving other lives in a tribute to His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. More blood will be needed soon, because the number of road accidents is expected to increase during the New Year holiday period. The Office of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand has launched the 2017 strategic plan, which aims to develop the capital market for all stakeholders and expand fund raising to startup businesses, as well as strengthening the Thai economy and society in line with the Thailand 4.0 policy. The plan would enhance investment and develop peoples investment literacy concerning stocks and mutual funds, and it would link investment opportunities with global markets through digital platforms. The National Astronomical Research Institute, Ministry of Science and Technology, states that on 22 December 2016, Thailand will experience the winter solstice, which is an astronomical phenomenon marking the shortest day and the longest night of the year. On that day, the sunrise and sunset in Bangkok will be at 6:37 a.m. and 5:56 p.m. and the daytime will last only 11 hours and 19 minutes. (21/12/2016)
According to the Bureau of the Royal Household, the general public will be able to sign a well-wishing book for His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun at Sahathai Samakom Pavilion from 1 January 2017 onward, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those planning to visit Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall to pay their respects to His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej on 1 January 2017 are asked to revise their plans, as the hall will be closed for the day. The exhibition Boromkasattrathiraj is taking place at the Queen Savang Vadhana Museum in Srapathum Palace, Bangkok. The event, held in commemoration of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, features royal biography, works, and achievements during his 70-year reign, international awards and honors conferred upon the late King, as well as letters of condolence from foreign monarchs and world leaders on the passing of the King. The exhibition will run until 31 March 2017, except Sundays. Visitors are requested to wear mourning attire. (21/12/2016)
The Ministry of Industry stated that, according to the National Food Institutes report, Thailand is ranked 13th among food exporters in the world, with a value of 980 billion to 1 trillion per year. The Office of Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion (OSMEP) is holding the Thailand Best Buy 2016 event at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. It features over 500 businesses presenting a variety of products with special promotions for the customers, especially products for the New Year's celebration, such as presents, home decorations, and clothes. The Ministry of Science and Technology will organize the next Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem market fair, "Market of Scientific Ways in 2017," on 9-29 January 2017. The fair will feature three main themes. The first theme is a portrayal of H.M. the late King Bhumibol's musical talents, while the second theme will be about the promotion of knowledge and information among members of the public, and the third theme is the selling of goods at special prices made available by participating entrepreneurs. The Governor of Suphanburi stated that Don Chedi Memorial Day 2017 will take place on 18 January 1 February 2017. This annual celebration commemorates King Naresuan and his great victory over Burmese troops. In the upcoming event, a 3D exhibition to honor the late King Rama IX will also be shown to the public. In remembrance of the late King, Thai people will have a good chance to see the story of his visit to Suphanburi, particularly when he presided over the opening ceremony of the Don Chedi Monument on 25 January 1959. The exhibition features emotional photographs with poems written on the occasion of the passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, which is the one of the greatest losses of the nation. The Minister of Culture is the chairman of the opening ceremony for the photo exhibition The Second Song Satit Nai Duang Jai Thai Nirian (H.M. the Late King Dwells in Thai Peoples Hearts Forever). Photographs of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej taken by the general public and 189 professional photographers will be chosen by the Ministry of Culture to appear this exhibition.
