The Governor of Samut Sakhon stated in a press conference that the 16th seafood festival is scheduled to take place on 2-6 March 2017 and it will once again be the best place in Thailand for anyone who loves seafood. The annual event underlines the province's reputation as the seafood hub of the country. Throughout the five-day event, visitors can buy seafood products fresh from the sea, as well as tasting a great variety of seafood dishes from leading restaurants in Samut Sakhon. (23/02/2017)

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has been conferred the Padma Bhushan Award by the Government of India for her exemplary contributions in the field of literature and education, on the occasion of the 68th Republic Day of India. The Padma Bhushan Award is one of the highest civilian awards conferred by the Government of India, in recognition of distinguished service of a higher order in various disciplines, such as art, science and technology, literature and education, trade and industry, and medicine. Walailak University in Nakorn Si Thammarat province, will host the Walailak Expo 2017, from 24 March to 1 April 2017. This event includes three activities: Walailaks open week, international seminars, and an agricultural fair. The most significant activities are the exhibition Follow in the Fathers Footsteps in honor of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, and the exhibition in honor of Her Highness Princess Chulabhorn. An exhibition, featuring His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadejs contribution to energy development, has been organized by the Ministry of Energy. The exhibition is divided into three parts, including the history and work of the Energy Policy and Planning Office, works by the Energy Conservation Fund, and the contributions of the late King to energy development. The Fine Arts Department has laid the foundations and steel frames for the surrounding structure of the royal crematorium to prepare for the project's inauguration ceremony on 27 February 2017. Artists have made a wooden and paper model of the funeral pyre as a construction reference, in addition to the computer-generated model. (22/02/2017)

Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan plan to make their first overseas trip since January last year to Viet Nam and Thailand next month.The emperor and empress are making arrangement to pay tribute to H.M. the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej during their visit to Thailand, revealed Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga. The Ministry of Commerce plans to widely encourage organic tapioca farming, after its success increasing the income of tapioca famers in Ubon Ratchathani province. The Minister of Commerce visited a factory of the Ubon Bioethanol Group and observed organic tapioca farms in Ubon Ratchathani. She said that organic tapioca farming reflects the strength of agriculturists, and that the ministry will continue to support ways for the farmers to earn higher incomes. (20/02/2017)
The Ministry of Public Health is on the watch for hand, foot, and mouth disease in children after finding 6,790 infected children. It advises all nurseries, kindergartens, and academies to screen children for illness every day and urges children to wash their hands frequently. So far, there have been no deaths reported. The Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) will sign an operating contract with Bangkok Expressway and Metro (BEM) for the Tao Poon - Bang Sue stretch of the MRT Blue Line. The decision was a result of a Cabinet resolution to approve the plan to hire BEM to install a train operation system, as well as to operate train services on the section. The plan has a budget of approximately 918.5 million baht. (17/02/2017)

A ferry service crossing the Gulf of Thailand, from Pattaya to Hua Hin, was officially opened on 12 February 2017. This project is operated in accordance with the governments policy to link the east coast with the west coast, increasing the countrys economic efficiency. Moreover, it is a new option for tourists visiting the coastal attraction areas. The ferry, named Royal 1, consisting of two air-conditioned decks with 286 economy seats, 44 business seats, and two eight-seat VIP rooms, runs twice a day. The Yen Sira Phro Phra Boriban Exhibition at Sanam Luang, which opened in 10 February 2017, honors H.M. the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. There are five zones in the exhibition. The first zone features the Chakri Dynasty; Zone 2 demonstrates the late Kings work on the Kings philosophy for sustainable development; Zone 3 under the theme The Great King; Zone 4 shows the late Kings biography and Royal Familys pictures; and Zone 5 displays some of his royal speeches as well as 89 photos of King Bhumibol during His Majestys working trips. There are three rounds for visitor, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for mourners waiting to pay tribute in the Grand Palace, and the second and third rounds are at 12-1 p.m. and 5-6 p.m., for the general public. The cabinet approved a 11,668 million baht budget for the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) for improving the electricity system in four big cities: Chiang Mai, Nakhon Ratchasima, Pattaya, and Hat Yai. The improvements will include changing and building the electric power distribution, moving electrical wiring underground, and enhancing the distribution system to an international standard. They plan to improve eight more important cities' electricity systems after finishing the first four cities. (15/02/2017)
An advisor to the Prime Ministers Office, Natthaporn Jatusripitak, stated that the cabinet approved the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to operate the project titled The Michelin Guide Thailand 2017-2020 with a budget of 143.50 million baht, to promote the good image of Thailand as a popular destination for culture and food tourism. It will increase the number of tourist, especially from Europe, Japan, the United States, and China. The TAT will cooperate with Michelin to create a Michelin guide for Thai restaurants. The restaurants will be selected by Michelins standard. Mr. Natthaporn also said that this guidebook will be published in English and Thai for 5 years, with 10,000 copies per year. (15/02/2017)
