The Ministry of Public Health has held the 1st International Conference on Occupational and Environmental Diseases at the Miracle Grand Convention Hotel, Bangkok, on 1-3 March 2017. Over 700 national and international health experts took part in the event. The conference features lectures by specialists from Thailand and Southeast Asian institutes, academic paper presentations, and a ceremony to honor five people for their outstanding roles in the field of occupational diseases. The Ministry of Public Health urges the public to be on the alert for a potential epidemic of chickenpox. The ministry revealed that the number of patients from 1 January to 19 February 2017 has reached 8,064. The Department of Labor Protection and Welfare, Ministry of Labor, is using information technology to link database information, in order to check data regarding employers, fishing laborers, and fishing boats. Doing so will encourage workers to obtain identity cards, which will help develop complaint channel, and workers will better understand their rights and be able to resolve problems more quickly. His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn attended the Royal Chinese Kong Teck (Gong De) rite for His Majesty the late King Bhumibol's funeral at Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall on 28 February 2017. The Chinese Kong Teck ceremony is a rite of Mahayana Buddhism, which is one of the two main branches of Buddhism. The rite is a merit-making ceremony to show gratitude to a monarch, parent, or teacher who has passed away. (01/03/2017)

The Emperor and Empress of Japan are scheduled to visit Thailand on Sunday, 5 March 2017. During the royal visit, the imperial couple will go to the Grand Palace and lay flowers in front of the royal altar and pay tribute to His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) revealed that the number of foreign tourists had increased 5.5% from the same period last year. Since tourism in Thailand is growing, TAT will continually encourage regional tourism to distribute public income across the country, together with promoting cultural tourism and strengthening cooperation in tourism between Thailand and the neighbor countries. Authorities set up a sales point at the Grand Palace's exit to allow departing mourners to purchase greeting cards depicting drawings by His Majesty King Rama X. Proceeds from the sales of the cards are to go to a fund set up in the name of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and will fund the construction of a new building at Siriraj Hospital and its equipment purchases. The Government plans to support enhancing production systems in agriculture to meet the standards of ThaiGAP, which was developed by Kasetsart University and the Thai Chamber of Commerce, for stepping up to agriculture industry 4.0. The production quality management will focus on food safety for consumers, welfare of the operators, and environmental conservation. So far, there are 26 standardized entrepreneurs. The Government aims to develop up to 50 more entrepreneurs this year. (27/02/2017)
