The Ministry of Public Health encourages the public to consume fruits and vegetables, as they can help in coping with high temperatures during this time. The ministry explained that the high heat during this period may cause fatigue. The consumption of nutritious fruits and vegetables that contain juice, such as cucumbers, watermelons, cantaloupes, and tomatoes, can have a cooling effect and help to stave off dehydration. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, jointly with the Thai Foundation, will kick off new smartphone applications Street Food Phuket, Street Food Chiang Mai Chiang Rai, and Street Food Bangkok (Chinese language) on 23 March 2017. These applications have collected names and locations of food shops in various areas for tourists convenience. The applications are free of charge. (20/03/2017)
The Digital Economy Promotion Agency is holding the event "Bangkok International Digital Content Festival 2017" under the concept "Digital Wonderland," to provide Thai digital content entrepreneurs a chance to meet with business partners and to drive Thailand to be the digital content hub of ASEAN. Sisaket province faced a summer thunderstorm during the past week that destroyed many houses and trees. It has been reported that over 41 houses were damaged. The authorities are now helping people who have been affected by the summer thunderstorm. (20/03/2017)
The Ministry of Transport plans to develop a pilot model of facilitation for people with disabilities and the elderly at five transport locations the Bangkok Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai), bus stops at Victory Monument, Don Mueang International Airport, Nakhon Pathom Railway Station, and Phra Nang Klao pier as pilot models. The renovation includes building ramps for wheelchairs and remodeling elevators and escalators to facilitate people with disabilities and the elderly by deploying innovation and technology. The designs will be based on the Universal Design and Service Design, together with current law enforcement. (17/03/2017)

The Ministry of Energy has started the project "Energy 4.0" to support the Thailand 4.0 policy and focus on smart technology development, such as electric cars, electricity production from waste material, and clean energy. It has also started the search for a smart city model project that would help to develop communities into smart cities, which use clean energy and employ innovation in the city management system. The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, in cooperation with the Agricultural Research Development Agency (Public Organization), aims to encourage the development of agricultural research following the Thailand 4.0 policy. The ministry and 11 agricultural and research organizations have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on agricultural research development for mutual use, along with providing agricultural information for all agencies. There was a ceremony to award individuals and organizations who promoted gender equality and protected the rights of women. Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha recently chaired a meeting on transforming Thailand into the aviation hub of South Asia. The meeting agreed to increase the capacities of airports and the aviation industry. The development plan, which complies with the Eastern Economic Corridor project, will be carried out by the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Industry, and security agencies. Once completed, about 3 million tons of products will be transported through the country, making Thailand a major distribution and transportation center in this region. (08/03/2017)

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has reopened one lane of the Thai-Belgian Bridge to ease traffic on Rama IV Road after closing it for renovation after a fire broke out last month and damaged the bridge. However, the lane will be available only to four-wheeled sedans to ensure safety as renovation work continues. (06/03/2017)
Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan are now on a private visit to Thailand to pay their last respects to His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The Emperor and Empress had a close friendship with the late King Bhumibol for more than 50 years. (05/03/2017)
The Organizing Committee for the Royal Cremation Ceremony of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej convened its first meeting on 1 March 2017. The committee has been granted permission from Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn to be the exclusive advisor. During the meeting, various issues were discussed, including the tentative program of the royal cremation ceremony, the royal carriages to be used in the ceremony, and the procession of honor, as well as the venues for the offering of sandalwood flowers.
