Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangul wished to assure visitors that foreign tourists are welcome to witness the historical royal cremation, which will be held from 25 to 29 October in Bangkok. Concurrently, the Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Yuthasak Supasorn, stated that TAT offices nationwide and abroad will adjust all marketing strategies to conform with the ceremony. He added that tourists visiting the Kingdom during the period will be asked to observe the funeral dress code if they are in the vicinity of the ceremonies or visiting temples. The TAT Governor concluded that domestic and foreign tourists can travel as usual and engage in tourism activities as deemed appropriate. (30/05/2017)
The Department of Disease Control (DDC) Director-General, Dr. Jessada Chokdamrongsuk, and Dr. Daniel Kertesz, World Health Organization (WHO) Representative to Thailand, chaired a press conference on the upcoming World No Tobacco Day campaign, Tobacco: A threat to development, which has the objective of minimizing the ramifications of the tobacco industry on public health. The event will be held tomorrow, 31 May, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Future Park Rangsit Shopping Mall. The opening ceremony will be presided over by Her Royal Highness Princess Soamsawali, who will also present the World No Tobacco Day Award 2017 and honorary plaques to individuals, networks, and agencies that have dedicated themselves to tobacco control. The Tham Phra waterfall, a famous natural attraction in Bueng Kan province, has opened for tourists to visit. The site is well-known for a natural water slide that is available to play on only in the rainy season. It will be open from 27 May 2017 until the end of the season. (30/05/2017)

The Government Lottery Office will issue a new lottery ticket that collapses the double ticket system into a single ticket, for 80 baht, on 1 September. Its new features include a more distinct watermark and a two-dimensional barcode that can be scanned by GLO offices for authentication. The new tickets are in response to reports of confusion by buyers and will improve the prevention of ticket fraud. (29/05/2017)
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has invited the general public to participate in the governments survey to find out about public opinions on the upcoming election and the permanent solutions to the countrys chronic political instability. Thais are encouraged to answer the four questions and submit them to a provincial Damrongdhama center across the country. The four questions are as follows: 1.) Do you think the country will have a government with good governance from the next general election? 2.) What would be a solution for the country if it failed to elect a government with good governance? 3.) Election is an important element of democracy, but will it be appropriate to hold an election without consideration to the country's future such as national strategies and reforms? 4.) Do you think politicians with inappropriate behavior should be allowed to run in the election, if yes, who and by which method will be required to regulate them? The public opinions will be collected by the Ministry of Interior and forwarded to the prime minister for further deliberation. (29/05/2017)
The Ministry of Commerce will organize the Thailand Rice Convention 2017 (TRC 2017) from 28 to 30 May 2017 at Central Grand Hotel, Bangkok. The theme of this event is Thai Rice: The new step with innovation. Thailand aims to be the leader in efficient rice production and the seller of the worlds best-quality rice. Various breeds of rice products with high nutritive value and innovative rice processing products will become commercially available and will add value in the market. Government commerce representatives from both importer and exporter countries, such as the Peoples Republic of China, Japan, Malaysia, Iraq, Iran, Vietnam, Cambodia, and the Lao Peoples Democratic Republic, will participate in this event. His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun has graciously granted the public permission to access the royal area, the Dusit Palace courtyard, to attend the exhibition "The great King of the Country and Philosopher of Waters," which honors His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej for developing water resources and water management in agriculture. The Ministry of Commerce launched the Local Economy 4.0 event, a product fair that serves as a venue for entrepreneurs wanting to find potential business partners, at Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani, from 25 to 27 May 2017. In the product zone, there are more than 650 vendors offering merchandise ranging from locally made goods to organic and innovative products. Moreover, entrepreneurs who are preparing to start a business are able to seek advice from experts and professionals. The Department of Skills Development is preparing to host the 12th ASEAN Skills Competition in August and September 2018 at IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center. The competition is arranged under an agreement by ASEAN member nations, and the project on skills development within Asia and the Pacific. It aims to promote self-development amongst the youths and the working population in ASEAN, and will bring them up to date with technology and international labor standards, which will promote better output and services. The Ministry of Commerce will host the Thailand Rice Convention 2017, under the new concept of "Rice Plus: Next Step of Innovation. The event will take place at Convention Center A, 22nd Floor, Centara Grand and Bangkok Convention Center at CentralWorld in Bangkok on 28-30 May. Chanthaburi province will host the Fruitpital Fair 2017 at the Chanthaburi provincial administration organization, from 3 to 11 June 2017. The event is the biggest fruit fair of the year in Chanthaburi. It is expected to attract more tourists to the province. (26/05/2017)
Prime Ministers Office Minister Omsin Cheewapruek has chaired a joint meeting of agencies organizing the Royal Cremation Ceremony. The meeting discussed progress in preparing spaces where the public will be able to lay their sandalwood flowers as part of the Royal Cremation Ceremony of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The meeting agreed that the public will be able to place their flowers around Sanam Luang and at 64 other areas in Bangkok. More spaces are being set up in the provinces and overseas to ensure that all of the late Kings loyal subjects are granted the opportunity to express their grief. (25/05/2017)
The Energy Conservation Promotion Foundation and the Thai Green Building Foundation have organized a program that supports the Smart Cities Clean Energy link to communities that are using energy efficiently. This will lead to a model called Green Energy and Green City, for saving energy and reducing carbon dioxide. There are more than 36 projects participating in this program but so far only seven projects have passed the selection. They will receive financial support from both foundations to help with their further progress. (25/05/2017)
Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) with the cooperation of TCC Land Group is promoting the Cumulative Market Project, which will support the capacity of SME entrepreneurs, micro enterprises, and OTOP businesses, using scientific and technological research for their business with the ASEAN Level Market Platform. This project is in Ayutthaya province on an area of 150 rai (60 acres). The market will be the channel for new products sales and will strengthen SMEs and OTOP entrepreneurs. (25/05/2017)
The Tourism Culture and Education Reform Steering Committee approved setting up the Thailand Institute of Sports Science (TISS). The principal task is to do research studies, develop sports science knowledge, and disseminate exercise information knowledge to the general public, such as forms of sports and how to choose the proper exercise for all ages and genders. After the setting up of 3,800 SME Support and Rescue Centers throughout the country in October 2016, the Ministry of Industry, with coordination of 13 network organizations, reported that 7,283 complainants have used the services of these centers to solve their problems. More than 4,861 complainants problems have already been solved. The ministry has provided more channels for this kind of service, such as Call Center 1358, Provincial Industry Offices, and Industry Support Center. (25/05/2017)
The cabinet has approved the Agriculture Development Master Plan 2017-2021 to support Thai agriculture and help farmers attain sustainable self-sufficiency. The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the Ministry of Interior will be responsible for integrating the master plan with agricultural development in the 12th National Economic and Social Development Plan. The Ministry of Energy disclosed that Thailand will join the Astana Expo 2017, to be held from 10 June to 10 September 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan. The Thailand pavilion will showcase the theme Bioenergy for All, which comprises three exhibition rooms, as follows: (1) Exhibition room 1: Showcasing the stories and images of Thailand through a live exhibition, an exhibition that creates a virtual reality experience, with the concept, Our Ways, Our Thai; (2) Exhibition room 2: The film Farming the Future Energy, presented in a 3D-movie format, storytelling by a robotic energy mascot in a fun and entertaining way; and (3) Exhibition room 3: An interactive exhibition where everyone can participated, under the concept Energy Creation Lab. Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Sports Pongpanu Swetarun led a delegation including Tourism Police Chief Pol. Maj. Gen. Apichai Thia-amat to review the Street Food pilot project on Yaowarat Road in Bangkok. The program aims to preserve and strengthen the area's distinctive street food. It also seeks to improve hygiene and other factors that boost tourist confidence. The permanent secretary stated that all vendors clearly displayed their prices and information for reporting complaints, as is urged in the project. The governments street food program is also active on Khao San Road. This program hopes to attract more tourists by leveraging Thailands street food culture. (24/05/2017)
