The Government Public Relations Department (PRD) will organize a press briefing and study tour on Preparations for the Royal Cremation Ceremony for His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The event aims to observe the progress on the construction of the Royal Crematorium, the royal chariots, and palanquins, as well as the ongoing preparations of the decorations for the Royal Crematorium. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports will promote Thai boxing as a field of tourism. The ministry revealed that there is an increasing number of foreigners who are interested in Thai boxing, and this target group is also in the category of quality tourists. Many of them will spend a long time on learning and practicing Thai boxing, and some will stay for about a year, so their spending is usually 50 percent higher than what regular tourists spend; therefore, the ministry would like to have more tourists who are interested in learning Muay Thai. The Department of Special Investigation has warned Thai workers, especially women, not to believe any job agency claiming that they can arrange a traditional massage job in South Korea. As this job is only reserved for people with disability in South Korea, it is against the law for any foreigners to perform this job. Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha will lead cabinet ministers on an official visit to Cambodia on 7 September 2017 to attend the third Thailand-Cambodia Joint Cabinet Retreat in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, which will boost bilateral relations. Gen. Prayut's emphasis will be on strengthening and enhancing co-operation in border development, labor, trade and investment, agricultural produce, connectivity, and regional and international frameworks, according to a statement recently released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Ministry of Transport has made facilitation plans to accommodate the public during the royal cremation ceremony of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The plan covers all modes of transport and will ensure the safety and convenience of the passengers. The Ministry of Public Health has opened a family clinic in Ranong to take care of home-based patients and provide health advice on the telephone, in accordance with the policy to provide family health units in all areas of Thailand. It will expand the service available from the current 596 teams to 996 teams serving twelve health districts in all the provinces throughout the country. The family care units will relieve the crowding in major hospitals by 60%, reducing the waiting time from 172 minutes to 44 minutes, and cut down the travel costs to and from the hospital by 1,655 baht per person per year. The Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) has announced that they will increase the fares on 23.5 kilometers of its rail network, which includes both the Sukhumvit line from Mo Chit to On Nut and the Silom line from the National Sports Stadium to Taksin Bridge. The fares will be increased from 15-42 baht to 16-44 baht. The adjustment will also affect 30-day passes, with each trip to be one more baht. While the new fares will be introduced on 1 October, Rabbit Card users will be able to pay original fares until 31 March 2018. Senior citizens above age 60 will continue to pay fares reduced by half. The Treasury Department has announced more production of commemorative coins marking His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej's cremation. The new batch will be available for reservation from 18 September onwards. After the gold, silver, and copper commemorative coins that were previously produced were fully reserved by the public within two days, the Department decided to produce one more lot of the coins in response to the high demand. This time, 50,000 gold coins, 400,000 silver coins, and 40,000 copper coins will be minted. (29/08/2017)
The Government aims to make Udon Thani province a center of product distribution, connectivity, and transportation to other important production bases in the upper Northeast region. The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand is now establishing the Udon Thani Industrial Estate, which is the first industrial estate in the Northeast. It is planned to be built in 2018. The Ministry of Education and the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) recently organized a special remark on the topic Global Challenges and UNESCO's Soft Power Vision, at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Bangkok. UNESCO supports STEM education for women to promote equal access for women in accordance with the UN resolution on reducing gender inequality by the year 2030. The Office of Traditional Arts announced that the compilation of artistic knowledge on the construction of the Royal Crematorium is now 65 percent completed. The complete body of artistic knowledge will also be available to the public in the form of books. The collection process is expected to be completed in December, while the entire artistic compilation will also be presented in an exhibition from 1 to 30 November 2017, which is after the cremation ceremony has concluded. Prayut Chan-o-cha recently declared that Colombia has decided to utilize Thailands approach on tackling narcotics, through the use of the royal wisdom in Chiang Rai, after Colombian delegates visited the Doi Tung Development Project and a reforestation project under the Global Partnership on Drug Policies and Development (GPDPD) in Chiang Rai province over the weekend. The Ministry of Transport stated that construction work on the first phase of the Thailand-China railway project will begin in October 2017. The first phase, the 253-km railway from Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasima, will proceed gradually with the first 3.5-km section, and then the second 11-km section, the third 119-km section, and finally the fourth 119-km section. The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society disclosed that Thailand Post Company has launched the new post boxes named Know-it-all, which can point you to the nearby tourist attractions. In the first phase, 15 smart post boxes have been installed in Phitsanulok province for testing and more will be installed across the country soon. The modern post boxes use solar power and are painted with a QR code that can link you to Thailand Posts list of activities and restaurants in each province.
