The Thai Retailers Association will organize the RetailEx ASEAN 2017, the ASEANs biggest retail business convention and trade exhibition, from 14 to 16 September 2017, at the Impact Exhibition and Convention Center, Bangkok. The event will present outstanding designs from retail stores, feature innovative technology for retail business and e-commerce, and offer free training on e-commerce from ASEAN digital experts. The Department of Land Transport revealed that driving licenses will be replaced with a new smart card on 4 September 2017. The new driving smart card will be embedded with a magnetic strip and QR codes to improve security by preventing fraud. Names on the new smart card will be printed in both Thai and English, enabling the holder to drive legally in other ASEAN member countries. (19/08/2017)

The Suphanburi Provincial Office is organizing Suphanburi: The History of Asia 2017 tourism campaign, under the theme of Thai Way of Life Travel: Way of Tawaravadee, to promote the diverse ethnic groups of Suphanburi as attractive travel destinations. Featuring OTOP products and cultural performances, the event will be held from 17 to 20 August 2017, opening 10.00 to 22.00 hr daily, at Samer Gun Racing Drag, Suphanburi. (18/08/2017)
The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives invites the public to join the Thai Farmer Expo 2017 on 17-20 August 2017 in Bangkoks Lumpini Park. Visitors are invited to take in farming methods and demonstrations, plus the latest technology as they walk around the exhibition. There will be 10 unique displays at the Thai Farmer Expo for visitors to discover. They can try various products grown by Thai farmers, and a farmers market selling farm-fresh local products will be set up. (18/08/2017)

The Ministry of Science and Technology has organized The 12 Years of National Science and Technology Fair under the theme of Spark an Idea, Develop Life by Science, Strengthen the Nation with Technology towards Innovation. This event aims to commemorate His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Father of Thai Science, and King Rama IV, known as the Father of Thai Technology and Innovation. The objective of this years fair is also to communicate the significance of the Sufficiency Economy philosophy, which will push the country to Thailand 4.0 and the sustainable development target of United Nations. To celebrate the birthday anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Ministry of Culture has organized an exhibition on the topic From the Wisdom to Arts on the 1st floor of zones A, B, C, and D at Ratchadamnoen Contemporary Art Center. This exhibition runs from 3 to 31 August 2017 at 10.00-19.00 hr. The visitors can see beautiful traditional Thai clothes by Thai designers. The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society is making progress in its implementation of the Pracharat internet connectivity project, which aims to provide equal access to government services, education, and public health. The program has successfully installed internet connectivity in almost 11,500 villages and plans to reach 24,700 villages by the end of the year. (14/08/2017)

The Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce, has joined hands with the popular Chinese online e-commerce site, JD.com, to open the Thailand Pavilion shop to increase business opportunities in the Chinese market. There are three categories of products that have been chosen to be exhibited; food, health and beauty, and lifestyle. Moreover, products with the Thailand Trust Mark (T Mark), which is the symbol of the best-quality products, will be on sale on the website. (11/08/2017)
The Department of Land Transport stated that the reformed Bangkok bus lines will trial eight new routes under a new zoning system starting this 15 August. The new bus line system aims to be more efficient and to provide better service. The capital's eight zones are also being collapsed into four zones divided by color and signified by an English letter. The zones are G for Green, R for Red, Y for Yellow and B for Blue. The bus fares will remain the same across Bangkok. (11/08/2017)
The Ministry of Industry, in cooperation with public and private organizations, has established the Industry Transformation Center (ITC), with the main task of supporting Thai businesses and the industrial sector to use advanced technology in line with the Thailand 4.0 policy. The ITC also provides services to connect both national and international industrial leaders, and provides financial support to enable Thai entrepreneurs to enhance their competitiveness. The Public Relations Department (PRD) and Yunnan Media Group (YMG) agreed to facilitate news and program production teams during their meeting on 10 August 2017. PRD and the Yunnan Broadcasting and TV Bureau signed the MoU on Information and Broadcasting Cooperation in 2006. The Ministry of Transport plans to raise the taxi services to a standard level. The plan is called the TAXI OK project. It consists of a taxi call service through an application on smart phones, linking taxi meters to a travel recorder that has GPS-Tracking, creating a taxi service center, and establishing a Department of Transport Taxi Center for controlling taxi entrepreneurs. The Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives is organizing Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem Market. The main theme of the event is Good Products Market, SMEs Thai Agriculture. It runs every day from 4 to 27 August 2017 at 10.00-19.00 hr. The first week, 4-9 August, will be SMEs toward Thai Economy. The second week, on 10-15 August, is Gift for Mom. The Ministry of Commerce revealed that it will develop short- and long-term strategies to support systematic fruit production in order to move Thailand forward as the world's "fruit superpower." The plan is to maintain the price, quality, and safety of Thai fruits. Initially, the strategies will be applied to durian, coconut, and mangosteen, owing to their high rate of production and export. In addition, all plans under the strategy are expected to be completed by June 2018. (09/08/2017)
Director-General of the Rice Department Mr. Anan Suwannarat recently presided over a worshipping ceremony for rice seeds which are to be grown and displayed at Sanam Luang as part of the royal cremation ceremony for His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The Director-General further stated that the department is going to set up a demonstration rice field, which will be constructed in the shape of the Thai number nine, on the northern perimeters of the crematorium near the main entrance to the structure. In order to allow sufficient time for the public to appreciate the rice field, the department plans to maintain it for a period of two months, from late September to the cremation day, 26 October, and through to November 2017.
