The Ministry of Commerce disclosed that the Ministry plans to develop e-retailing in Thailand over the next few years and make it the highest-valued online market in Southeast Asia. The plan is to prepare entrepreneurs to utilize technology in order to maximize their products and services, as well as to create a user-friendly and safe environment for both retailers and consumers in the e-commerce industry. H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will preside over the Prince Mahidol Award presentation for 2017 today (31 January 2018) at the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall. This year the awardees are the Human Genome Project from the United States of America, in the field of Medicine, and Professor Porter W. Anderson, Jr., Dr. John B. The Anti-Money Laundering Organization is drafting an amendment to legislation covering Bitcoin and other crypto-currencies that can be used in money laundering and other illegal activities. The AMLO said it needs to be empowered to follow the money trial involving digital currencies, since 90% of criminal networks were using Bitcoin to launder ill-gotten funds. (31/01/2018)
Thai people across the country have visited the treasury offices in their areas to receive their reserved coins commemorating the royal cremation ceremony of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol. Commemorative coins are available to be picked up from 29 January 2018. If they are picking up their coins themselves, buyers have to bring the receipt and their national ID card to get the reserved coins. But in the case of substituting other people to pick the coins up, the representative must bring the receipt, which must be signed by the buyer on the back to authorize the representative, and signed photocopies of the national ID cards of the buyer and representative must also be presented as evidence to get the reserved coins. Thailand's U-Tapao International Airport in Rayong province has welcomed a new Qatar Airways direct flight to and from Doha. The airline will now operate four flights per week at the airport, a prominent part of the Eastern Economic Corridor, which the Government is developing to accommodate increased tourism and business activity in the eastern region. Google has celebrated the 50th anniversary of the first sighting of the Princess Sirindhorn bird with a specially designed doodle. Googles description says the rare white-eyed river martin was first spotted in Thailand 50 years ago and is one of only two species of birds that are endemic to Thailand. The Board of Investment revealed that the newly launched Smart Visa project, approved by the Cabinet on 16 January 2018 will encourage more investment in technology and knowledge-based industries. The winter festival event initiative by His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun, Oon Ai Ruk Klay Kwam Naao (Warm Love to Loosen the Cold), will be held at the Grounds of Dusit Palace and Sanam Suea Pa, in Bangkok. The event will feature an exhibition of King Rama V and King Rama IX, Thai cultural performances, local Thai product shops, and many more. Walailak University has designed and developed virtual reality (VR) media for Nakhon Sri Thammarat province to promote its tourism and enhance the positioning of the province as a smart city, in keeping with the Government's policy to encourage technology implementation in development. The southern province is one of the key cities in the "Twelve Cities that Can't Be Missed" campaign. The project will feature key attractions of Nakhon Sri Thammarat, allowing viewers to have an immersive virtual experience of selected attractions in a 360-degree view. (29/01/2018)
The Ministry of Commerce disclosed that Thailand was named the best country to start up a business for a second consecutive year, in a survey by US News and World Report. Moreover, Thailand was also awarded the No. 5 best country for studying abroad, the No. 8 best country to invest in, and the No. 9 best country to travel alone in. The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, in cooperation with Thai Health Promotion Foundation, has organized the project called No One Left Behind which aims to raise funds for the construction of ASEAN Training Center for the disabled. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is hosting the 37th ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF), which is taking place at Chiang Mai, from 24 to 26 January 2018. There are three major topics to be discussed, including sustainable development of ASEAN's tourism sector, tourism connectivity, and the promotion of ASEAN culinary cultures. Last year, Thailand welcomed 35 million foreign visitors. This year the Government will continue promoting domestic tourism, focusing on community tourism, and boosting incomes for the local people. Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha is now on a visit to India to attend ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit, marking the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-India relations and India's 69th Republic Day. PRD is holding a three-day activity for releasing sea turtles, initiated by H.R.H. Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana, from 25 to 27 January 2018. The event is taking place both in Bangkok and at the Sea Turtle Conservation Center in Rayong Province, in order to honor the environmental and marine animal conservation initiatives of King Bhumibol and to promote the publics awareness of environmental, coral, and marine animal conservation. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has been working with various sectors to launch a new website, namely, to provide tourists with in-depth tourism information, such as attractions and accommodations. The ministry also coordinates with local businesses nationwide to obtain relevant updated information, which will be managed and published on the website. The Ministry of Public Health is placing emphasis on the improvement of emergency medical care in Thailand. Emergency medical care has been enhanced with modern equipment and a sufficient number of personnel. The ministry will continue to develop services, especially solutions to overcrowding in emergency rooms and ways to ensure that emergency room staff have expertise to save lives and heal injuries. The Ministry of Industry revealed that, in order to implement the EEC development program, five auction events for investment would soon be organized. They are (1) a high-speed train link between three international airports (Don Mueang, Suvarnabhumi, and U-Tapao) (the call for bids will begin in late February 2018); (2) the construction of U-Tapao International Airport (the call for bids will begin in July 2018 and the airport will be opened in 2023); (3) an Aircraft Maintenance Center at U-Tapao International Airport (the call for bids will begin in May 2018); (4) the construction of Laem Chabang Port (Phase 3) (the call for bids will begin in August 2018 and the port will be opened in 2025); and (5) the expansion of Maptaphut Port (Phase 3) (the call for bids will begin in June 2018).
