The Ministry of Commerce disclosed that Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak will lead a Thai delegation to visit Fukuoka prefecture in Japan on 8-10 February 2018 in order to expand economic cooperation and attract investors in the S-Curve industrial sector in Thailand. In this occasion, he will meet with Japanese government officials and members of the Japanese private sector, as well as attending a seminar to attract investors from Fukuoka to Thailand. The Prime Minister and members of the Cabinet visited the Chanthaboon Waterfront Community during the weekly Cabinet retreat in Chanthaburi. They also have discussed various issues including the strategy to make Thailand a global powerhouse in the tropical fruit trade and the development of eight provinces on the eastern seaboard. During their visit to Trat, they visited a fresh water management center at Baan Pred Nai mangrove forest and toward Baan Pred Nai community to view their processed agricultural products. The Government aims to reform education in the eastern region to accommodate the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). As the EEC will take place in three provinces, namely Chachoengsao, Chonburi, and Rayong, the Ministry of Education has extended to eight neighboring provinces, adding Chantaburi, Trat, Prachinburi, Nakhon Nayok, and Sakaeo. The project is aimed at developing education in the area to produce graduates who meet the requirements of the industries that will be present. (07/02/2018)
The Ministry of Education plans to help public schools to improve their internet networks as a way to help students do their research. It recently held a meeting to follow up on the use of internet networks at public schools in Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces. The Community Development Department is now holding a five-day event titled OTOP to the Town 2018, in order to promote OTOP products nationwide and provide entrepreneurs an excellent opportunity to showcase, develop, and sell their products. The event is taking place at Building B, Chaeng Watthana Government Complex, from 5 to 9 February 2018. The Interior Minister has been assigned by the Prime Minister to put forth the Thai Niyom Yang Yuen initiative to solve problems at the grassroots level by promoting the participation of local administration organizations. The initiative requires every state agency to work hand in hand to improve the well-being of the poor, the underprivileged, and low-income earners, toward achieving the goals set by the central administrations 20-year national strategic plan. The Ministry of Public Health has advised schools across the country to impose preventive measures against influenza, following a report that nearly 9,000 people in Thailand came down with the flu last month; up to 27% of the patients were students. Schools were suggested to separate infected students from the rest of the class, have them wear a mask, and send them to the school's infirmary, and teachers need to explain to parents that sick children must remain at home until they recover before returning to classes, to prevent the flu from spreading. The Ministry of Public Health has held a ceremony to honor 54 districts for their achievements in preventing road accidents during the last New Year holiday. The ceremony aimed to offer moral support and thanks to personnel and volunteers involved in the accident reduction campaign. The ministry has annually implemented its policy to reduce road accidents. Each year, these accidents claim 20,000 lives and cost the nation over 200 billion baht. It plans to reduce road casualties by 50 percent by 2020 through the participation of all sectors. (05/02/2018)
The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society revealed that the ministry plans to build a new cloud data center in Bangkok, scheduled to begin by March 2018. The Department of Land Transport has stated that the Taxi OK program is considered an upgrade within the Thai taxi industry. All Taxi OK vehicles are required to have a GPS tracking device, a surveillance camera, and an SOS emergency button. The taxi drivers who are interested in joining the program must meet all the aforementioned requirements. The Taxi OK application is now available at the App Store, Google Play, and Windows Phone. Aeronautical Radio of Thailand has revealed that the Thai aviation industry is expected to continually grow, after the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) lifted the "red flag" status on the country last year. Thailand is predicted to rank among the top ten countries with the highest passenger growth rate in the world within the next 20 years, with an average number of nearly three million flights a year. Thailand, via the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and Cambodia, via the Ministry of Environment, have signed an MOU to work jointly for natural conservation and biodiversity protection along their shared border. Both countries will cooperatively work in every step, encompassing activities, information and research exchange, human resource development, and public relations in efforts to preserve biodiversity. The Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment has given awards to 106 environment-friendly hotels, businesses, and offices. The ministry aims to encourage businesses to improve their operations to better utilize natural resources and manage waste. In addition, the ministry has signed a memorandum of understanding to support green businesses in the tourism industry with the Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration, SME Development Bank, and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand. The Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA) announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Institute for Emergency Medicine to upgrade emergency medical systems in special tourism areas for higher tourist safety. DASTA also stated that various activities had been hold to ensure the well-being and safety of tourists and to prepare community members for their role as good hosts, such as emergency rescue workshops for related personnel in Loei, Nan, Sukhothai, Si Satchanalai, and Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park.
