The BOI meeting on 9 May 2018, which Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha chaired, approved a measure to promote investment for Smart City development in a bid to uplift peoples quality of life in transport, education, social equality, safety, ease of doing business, public services, and energy and the environment. The meeting approved revision of two measures to promote innovation and technology, and it also approved investment promotion for housing development for laborers in a bid to upgrade the quality of life for both Thai and migrant workers. The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives disclosed that it will organize the National Farmers Forum at SIMA ASEAN Thailand 2018 on 6-8 June 2018 at IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center, Bangkok. The three-day forum will be a comprehensive knowledge-sharing platform for Thailands agriculture industry, and the ministry expects it to be attended by more than 3,000 farmers, heads of cooperatives, dealers, and distributors. The Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) is proceeding to raise public awareness of consumer rights. Recently, it held a meeting to consider guidelines for promoting awareness among Thai people concerning their rights as consumers of various products and services. Moreover, the department has jointly worked with the Royal Thai Police to halt the distribution of substandard goods and to take legal action against the illegal entrepreneurs. (15/05/2018)
The Office of the Public Sector Development Commission (OPCD) disclosed that the World Bank Research Team is going to visit Thailand in order to collect data about doing business in Thailand (for Doing Business 2019); they will meet the OPCD on 15 May 2018. The OPCD expects the meeting will end up with the criteria for making improvements in the ease of doing business and hopes to improve the recommendations, to move up in the ranking. (14/05/2018)

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is organizing a new campaign to promote weekday tourism on 10-13 May 2018 at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, Bangkok. The fair aims to stimulate the amount of domestic travel, with the goal of reaching 160 million trips, as well as promoting the 55 secondary destinations in line with the Governments policy to promote tourism in less-visited cities. The Royal Thai Police are in the process of drafting their first-ever guidelines for how law enforcers should handle human trafficking cases, as the Government has set human trafficking as an urgent national agenda. The guidelines will contain information given by experts during a workshop held earlier this year. In addition, the Royal Thai Police recently organized a seminar to gather feedback on the draft guidelines and views of those who are familiar with the legal procedures in connection with human trafficking cases. Thailand is ranked in second place among non-Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) markets as "the most Muslim-friendly travel destination," according to the Mastercard-Crescent Rating Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2018. Among non-OIC destinations, Thailand is in the second position after Singapore. Japan and Taiwan surged into the top five for the first time since the GMTI was released. (11/05/2018)
Dr.Kobsak Pootrakool, Minister attached to the Prime Ministers Office, attends the 14th Conference of ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information in Singapore. Ministers Responsible for Information and Media from 10 Member States and ASEAN Secretariats Secretary General discussed on the theme Inclusive and Informed Digital ASEAN. The Department of Highways has launched a new bicycle lane in Nong Ya Plong district, Phetchaburi povince, to ensure the safety of tourists who visit Kaeng Krachan Dam and a royally-initiated development project of His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The new 5.12-kilometer-long bike lane was opened on 25 April. The two-way lane runs parallel with Highway 3510, and is three meters wide. Tourists could also use the new bike lane from the kilometer marker 20+800 to 25+921 to visit a hot spring in Yang Nam Klat Nua subdistrict. (10/05/2018)
Buriram province will host MotoGP 2018 at Chang International Circuit from 5 to 7 October 2018. Related public and private agencies are collaborating to ensure the stadium receives Grade A certification from the International Motorcycling Federation. The Tourism Authority of Thailand has also trained 500 police officers, military personnel, nurses, and students as language interpreters and will deploy them in many key locations. The event will be broadcast live to 207 countries around the world. (09/05/2018)
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports disclosed that the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has opened a new office in Toronto, Canada. The new office is aimed to increase the number of Canadian visitors from 238,000 last year to 500,000 within the next few years. Based on the Government policy, the ministry will also encourage Canadian tourists to visit 55 secondary destinations across the country. (09/05/2018)

The Deputy Commerce Minister has visited Chaiyaphum province to follow up on the implementation of the Government's large-scale farming project, the organic rice project, and the Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) project, as the Government is encouraging organic rice farmers to refrain from using pesticides and other chemicals at all. Their crops will be subjected to tight scrutiny, in order to ensure quality. Meanwhile, the Government will also help with finding distribution channels for the farmers. (09/05/2018)
The Ministry of Interior has instructed all agencies to prepare disaster prevention measures ahead of the upcoming rainy season. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has estimated that the rainy season will start in the third week of May, and it has set up emergency command units at all administrative areas to monitor the situation in flood-prone communities. In addition, the DDPM has worked closely with related agencies in mapping out flood prevention and relief measures. (09/05/2018)
The National Health Security Office (NHSO) revealed that the Government has allocated funds to enable the NHSO to continue serving HIV/AIDS patients, as well as supporting and promoting the provision of services for HIV-infected people. In this year, NHSO will launch the HIV/AIDS gold card, which aims to improve public health service for HIV/AIDS patients. (08/05/2018)

The Ministry of Education chaired the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between twelve educational institutions in the eastern region, businesses, and related organizations. The agreement aims to improve the abilities of vocational students, allowing them to enhance their skills and gain first-hand work experience. The ultimate goal is to supply skilled workers to the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and give Thai students career opportunities in the industrial sector. (08/05/2018)
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed that the ministry is going to improve Thai passports, making them valid for 10 years instead of five years, in the near future. The new passports will be upgraded to use biometric technology to collect data, and the procedure to apply for a passport will be shortened, as well. (07/05/2018)

Uttaradit, the original source of the famous Long Lap Lae and Lin Lap Lae durian, has opened its durian orchards to visitors, and a delivery service has been provided for customers. The festival also showcased various other types of durian, such as the Kanyao. It is expected that the total spending at the festival would reach one billion baht. Visitors can order the fruit, make payment and then go home, while the planters send the ordered fruit via a delivery service system. (07/05/2018)
Thailand Industry Expo 2018, under the theme of Change to Shift, will be held on 2-5 August 2018 at Challenger 2-3, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani. The objective is to display the significance of Thailands industries, which need to adapt and change in order to raise their level and move forward to the Industry 4.0 period. This activity is a platform to create and promote industrial policies for Thailand 4.0. Cooperation is expected to expand to the government, private, and education sectors, and to the general population. This activity consists of Thailand Global Industry Outlook 2018, Agro-Inno Shift Exhibition, Manufacture-Inno Shift Exhibition, Service-Inno Shift Exhibition, and Thailand Industry Premium Outlet 2018. On 17 April 2018, UNESCO Global Geoparks, which is involved in the world heritage conservation project of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, named Satun Geopark one of 120 Geoparks in 33 countries. There are four other Geoparks in three countries of Southeast Asia. There is one in Malaysia, one in Vietnam, and two more in Indonesia. World Geoparks are areas that represent geological value, archeology, ecology, and culture. The management is holistic, which links conservation, learning, study, and research, and it encourages sustainable economic and social development, to give local people a chance to take part in the processes from the beginning to the end. The Ministry of Industry has held an event to promote Thailand Industry Expo 2018 (Thailand Industry Expo 2018 Exhibitor Meeting), along with a seminar about the development of Thailand's industries. The Thailand Industry Expo 2018 will be held on 2-5 August 2018 at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, under the concept "CHANGE to SHIFT." This is to reflect the importance that the Thai industry needs to adapt and change for the advancement of the country's industrial sector. (03/05/2018)
