The Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health, is preparing to launch a new campaign to raise public awareness of hypertension. The campaign aims to encourage risk groups, including people aged above 35 whose families suffer hypertension and those who are obese, to pay attention to their blood pressure so as to prevent and reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke. In addition, the World Hypertension League (WHL) designated 17 May as World Hypertension Day. The theme of this year's World Hypertension Day is "Know Your Numbers." The goal is to increase awareness of high blood pressure (BP) in all populations around the world. (23/05/2018)
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) plans to launch a Michelin Guide that covers all of Thailand by 2025, and expects to increase the proportion of food expenditures to 800 billion baht within five years. The 2019 edition of the guide will cover the popular tourist destinations of Phuket and Phang Nga, as well as the central provinces of Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, and Samut Prakan. The Ministry of Interior has instructed all provincial disaster prevention and mitigation offices to prepared for flooding and landslides during this rainy season, which will begin in the latter part of May and last until mid-October. Local administrative organizations and related agencies have been assigned to inspect their reservoirs and immediately repair them if any damage is found. (22/05/2018)
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment disclosed that Maya Bay, at Hat Noppharat, Phi Phi National Park in Krabi province, will be closed from 1 June to 30 September 2018. The objective is the recovery of the islands battered coral reefs and sea life. Maya Bay has become popular over the years since the movie The Beach was filmed there. Currently, it welcomes over 4,000 tourists per day. (21/05/2018)

Ministry of Culture and Thai Beverage Public Company Limited is organizing the exhibition Celebrating the National Glass Plate Negative Recognized as UNESCO Memory of the World from 25 May to 28 July 2018, at 8.30-19.00 hr (except Monday, Tuesday, and national holidays) at the National Gallery, Bangkok. The objective is to give the general public a chance to take part in cultural heritage. (21/05/2018)
The 2/2018 BOI meeting approved the extension of application for investment promotion in the special economic zones in 10 provinces (Tak, Trat, Mukdaharn, Sakaeo, Songkhla, Chiang Rai, Nong Khai, Nakhon Phanom, Kanchanaburi, and Narathiwat) from December 30, 2018 to December 30, 2020 to promote investment in the border areas. The six other investment projects are worth 37,726 million baht. (21/05/2018)
The Government aims to support community enterprises to help them grow further. It is working on a new draft law designed to promote community enterprises in Thailand. This legal development means community enterprises will soon be able to engage more conveniently in financial transactions and trade activities, as well as leasing land and properties. In addition, it will equip community enterprises with leverage in trade negotiations and help bring all of them together to develop more products for export, and help them to improve the quality of their lives. The World Bank has praised the Thai government for making significant changes to government services. With its effort, Thailand has become more conducive to investment and business, resulting in the countrys improved ranking in the World Banks ease of doing business index at 26th place in 2018, compared to 46th in 2017. The Government revealed that the "Thai Niyom Direct Line" has been launched, as a way for the public to submit complaints or suggestions, which will reportedly go directly to the Prime Minister. It is intended to complement the government 1111 hotline, 1567 hotline, and P.O. Box 1111, as well as other channels, such as the Damrongtham centers nationwide. (20/05/2018)

The Ministry of Energy plans to introduce a new Power Development Plan (PDP) this September, enhancing the nation's energy security. The new PDP will focus on energy security reinforcement in each region of Thailand, enhancing the capabilities in particular areas, such as southern border provinces, that have the capacity to allocate alternative fuels for electricity generation and to focus more on environmental issues. The Ministry of Labor disclosed that migrant workers are not allowed to work as caddies on golf courses. The ministry emphasized that the golf courses that hired migrant workers would face charges of hiring migrants illegally without a permit. (18/05/2018)

The Department of Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce, has organized the Thai Jasmine Rice Contest, aimed at improving the quality of jasmine rice in the country. This year, 116 role model farmers received awards because they have demonstrated themselves as a driving force to improve the rice production quality. The contest will help boost the confidence among traders, as well as the value of Thai jasmine rice. In addition, the rice price situation this year is likely to improve, and the Ministry of Commerce has a policy to stabilize rice prices to help Thai farmers. (18/05/2018)
The Department of Health has called on schools to inspect their playgrounds and their equipment to make sure that they are in safe condition. The department warned that accidents could happen to children when they engage in recreational activities, as they might not be careful when playing. School personnel and teachers should keep a close watch on their students, especially on the playgrounds, to prevent accidents from happening. (17/05/2018)
The officers of the third office of Fine Arts Ayutthaya have found archaeological items, including baked-clay spinning wheels and glass bracelets, from the prehistoric period, barking deer bones from the Ayutthaya period, and ancient Benjarong porcelain in Pho Thong district, Ang Thong. The local people have also discovered heads and other parts of Buddha images, and laterite boundary markers of a temple, which they gave to Wat Rang Buddhist temple. The fine arts regional office inspected the archaeological finds and found that they dated from before the Ayutthaya era. (17/05/2018)
The National Innovation Agency will host Startup Thailand 2018. This year's event is taking the theme of "Endless Opportunity for Everyone." The event is aimed at helping new entrepreneurs to develop their businesses and engage in global competition. It will be open from 17 to 20 May 2018 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. The past two years of the event successfully fulfilled the country's policy on science and technology development, particularly by creating innovations that benefit industries, thus creating jobs and developing the new generation of people. The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) has convened a meeting to determine the criteria for the Green National Park Award, in order to align its national park management with global standards. Last year, 14 national parks received the Green National Park Award. In addition, many popular national parks that have been declared eco-tourism destinations by the DNP, have been damaged by rising tourism activities, such as Doi Inthanon, Koh Samed, and Maya Beach, as well as other famous tourist destinations in the South. The Department of Land Transport is conducting strict inspections on school shuttle buses to ensure the safety of students. The school shuttle bus operators are responsible for making sure that their vehicles meet the department's standard, and must be equipped with safety tools for students in case of emergency. Besides, the driving backgrounds of bus drivers must be intact, and they must be able to handle emergency situations well. (16/05/2018)
The Ministry of Culture, with the cooperation of the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, will organize Thailand Biennale, Krabi 2018 from 2 November 2018 until 28 February 2019. The event is an outdoor exhibition, which will display art works of more than 70 artists from 24 countries all over the world. The Department of Highways has launched a new bicycle lane in Nong Ya Plong district, Phetchaburi province, to ensure the safety of tourists who visit Kaeng Krachan Dam and a royally initiated development project of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The new 5.12-kilometer-long bike lane was opened on 25 April. The two-way lane, which is three meters wide, runs parallel with Highway 3510. Cyclists may also use the new bike lane from the kilometer marker 20+800 to 25+921 to visit a hot spring in Yang Nam Klat Nua subdistrict. (15/05/2018)

The target of GSB is to become the best and biggest local bank in Thailand. The form of its booth is GSB City of Wealth, which will inspire the smart economy from smart cities in other countries.
