The Ministry of Industry revealed that Thailand has launched a new visa scheme for professionals, which is known as Smart Visa, to attract highly-skilled foreign talent. The Smart Visa targets foreign entrepreneurs and high-level executives involved in new business start-ups in 10 target industries, which include the automotive, electronics, tourism, agriculture and biotechnology, food, robotics, aviation and logistics, biofuels and biochemical, digital, and medical sectors. The Ministry of Commerce disclosed that the ministry will complete the installation of 40,000 EDC card payment terminals by the end of June 2018. It aims to serve persons buying products using their allowances on the welfare card. The ministry plans to develop the Blue Flag Stores on specific operational guidelines, including shop decoration, stock management, logistics planning, accounting, and tax payment, which will help them improve their ability to become discount shops in the future. The Department of Environmental Quality Promotion has initiated a project to label products that have a lower environmental impact, compared with their competitors, in accordance with the 20-year national strategy. The campaign aims to raise consumer awareness and promote an eco-friendly economy. So far, Thailand has more than 10 environmental labels, such as the green label, the carbon footprint label, and the energy saving label, all of which include over 144,000 products and services in Thailand. Thailand's Ministry of Industry will organize Manufacturing Expo 2018, which will exhibit many cutting-edge technologies from 46 countries. It is intended to encourage businesses to keep pace with the latest technological developments and become 4.0 industries of the future. The expo will take place on 23 June 2018 at BITEC Bang Na. The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, in cooperation with Burapha University and the Marine Science Association of Thailand, has organized the sixth Marine Science Conference, between 18 and 20 June 2018, in Chonburi province. The conference was held under the theme "One World One Ocean: New and More Value of the Sea" which aims to provide opportunities to lecturers, researchers, students, government agencies, private agencies, and interested individuals to present their academic work, in order to share knowledge, opinions, experiences in marine science, and marine innovations and technology to add value or create new value for marine and coastal resources and preserve marine resources. Trang has launched projects for enhancing Trangs tourism competitiveness by promoting a new fashion of tourism, especially sports tourism. It will organize a triathlon in late 2018. The activity will allow participants to experience the beautiful nature found in Trang. It is expected to expand Trangs economic sector and increase revenue from tourism-related businesses. The leaders of countries participating in the Ayeyawady Chao Phraya Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Summit vowed to implement the ACMECS Master Plan 2019-2023 for regional development during the opening ceremony on 16 June 2018. The plan is the first of its kind to highlight infrastructure connectivity among the five member nations -- Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Thailand (the CLMVT cluster) -- as well as joint development of financial regulations and human resources. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has launched the Family Fun project with a mobile application to promote Thailand as a family destination, targeting especially families from ASEAN, South Asia, and the South Pacific. The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA), and the Thai Animation & Computer Graphics Association have held the fifth Bangkok International Digital Content Festival at the InterContinental Hotel. The event also hosted business-matching sessions among Thai business owners and 38 leading digital content creators from Australia, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and other places. The Government has developed a new water management mechanism. The implementation comprises the following pillars: (1) Legal aspect: The Water Resource Act has been drafted, and the law will take effect before the end of this year; (2) National-level organization of water resource management: The National Water Resource Commission was established, with the Prime Minister as chair, to set directives and key operation plans; and (3) Water resource management strategic plan: The Cabinet approved a water resource management strategy (2015-2026) as a guideline for the countrys water management operations. The Ministry of Commerce is searching out new markets for pineapples in an attempt to keep pineapple prices from falling further because of an oversupply. A subcommittee overseeing matters related to the export of pineapples and the pineapple market will have a meeting at the Ministry of Commerce to solve the problem. In addition, the ministry aims to boost pineapple exports and consumption, especially in provinces where pineapples are not a common fruit. (14/06/2018)
His Excellency U Win Myint, President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, will pay an official visit to Thailand as Guest of the Royal Thai Government and have a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Thailand at the Government House on 14 June 2018. The Government Spokesman Bureau disclosed that Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha and other members of the Cabinet are scheduled to the Central provinces of Nakhon Sawan, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit and Uthai Thani on 11 12 June 2018 for an inspection and a Cabinet retreat. OTOP Midyear 2018 will soon take place on 9-17 June 2018 at Impact Muang Thong Thani, presenting visitors with unique Thai goods for sale and stimulating the community economies. The fair will gather famous local food products, clothing, daily items, and souvenirs from across the country. A highlight this year will be a demonstration village erected as part of the OTOP Local Innovation project, where over 3,000 sellers from villages across the country will be participating. The Ministry of Energy is developing a framework to establish Thailand's energy supply free of fossil fuel resources. The framework, which will be completed by the end of the year, will focus on developing alternative energy sources for electricity supply and vehicles. It is expected that Thailand will be independent of fossil fuels within 20 years, under the framework. (11/06/2018)
The Ministry of Industry revealed that China, Japan, and Thailand have expressed willingness to push for trilateral business cooperation in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). The EEC is the flagship project of the Thailand 4.0 policy, which calls for participation with the international community. The Eastern Economic Corridor Office (EECO) stated that Laem Chabang Port Phase III will be developed in a way that will put it in a better position to satisfy the future demands of international sea freight and transportation industries. This expansion will see the creation of a deep-sea port and many other facilities, including the implementation of a single rail transfer operator (SRTO), the construction of a larger Port A, and the renovation of many facilities. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) aims to upgrade the national disaster management system to cover all dimensions, as disasters are expected to occur more frequently. The Government has put a high priority on developing the disaster management system, and has installed a new management mechanism to increase its efficiency. The department will develop a comprehensive disaster alert system, enhance the potential of its personnel, and expand the communication channels; therefore, the public will be able to receive more and better emergency alerts and information.
