Trang province has launched a campaign to enhance marketing opportunities, increase connections between local businesses, and expand their operations to the ASEAN region and other overseas markets. The project aims to increase their capabilities in the age of the Digital Society. The meeting will be taking place on 16-18 September 2018 at Rua Rasada Hotel in the southern province. (03/09/2018)
Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha presented a contribution of three million baht to the Indonesian Ambassador to Thailand for supporting persons affected by the devastating earthquakes that struck Indonesia's Lombok Island on 29 July and 5 August 2018. He also reassured the ambassador that Thailand was ready to provide assistance to the Indonesian government. The disaster damaged 73,843 homes, leaving 431,416 people homeless. (31/08/2018)
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) has organized the event "Thailand Focus 2018: The Future Is Now" to promote the digital economic policy of the Thai government, such as digital infrastructure investment, development of digital personnel, application development, digital government and cybersecurity. The Ministry of Labor announced Thailand Labor Management Excellence Award 2018 for entrepreneurs that have managed to achieve good international standards in their systems. These will raise the working efficiency and living standards of workers, in accordance with Thailands national strategy policy. The ministry will push and strengthen the workers to follow the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy and principles of good governance, which are the roots of a happy life in Thai society, in response to the Government strategy to move forward to Thailand 4.0. The Ministry of Labor, with representatives of Safe & Fair: Realizing women migrant workers rights and opportunities in the ASEAN region and the International Labor Organization of Thailand, Cambodia, and Lao People's Democratic Republic, have had a meeting to review a progress report on women migrant workers in Thailand. The result of the meeting is to establish a consultant committee to advise women migrant workers on their rights and opportunities, in order to create better conditions for women and to reduce immigration, the number of trafficked women, violence, and exploitation of women migrant workers. Other objectives are to update members information and knowledge and learn how to enhance public attitudes. (30/08/2018)

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Government and the people of Thailand offer our profound sympathy and condolences on the passing of U.S. Senator John McCain on 25 August 2018. Senator McCain was a statesman recognized for his selfless service to his country. He was also a good friend of Thailand and strong supporter of Thai-American relations. His legacy and patriotic service to his country will serve as an inspiration and example for many around the world. The Ministry of Finance is moving forward with its development of the National E-Payment system, increasing no-fee transactions when using Prompt Pay, from 5,000 to 700,000 baht, and upgrading Electronic Data Capture (EDC) machines to distinguish between the price of goods and Value Added Tax (VAT). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha is scheduled to attend the 4th Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation Summit (BIMSTEC) on 30-31 August 2018 in Nepal. The summit will be held under the theme Towards a Peaceful, Prosperous and Sustainable Bay of Bengal Region. The leaders will adopt the 4th BIMSTEC Summit Declaration, which will underline the future direction of BIMSTEC and tangible results of the cooperation. (28/08/2018)

The Government disclosed that His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun has graciously allowed the lawn of Dusit Palace to be used for the staging of From Thai Hearts across the Land, a musical performance for the public, on 25 August 2018. Many musicians and artists will take part in the performance and will be devoting their performances to His Majesty the King on the occasion of his birthday and to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of the Ninth Reign on the occasion of her birthday. The Ministry of Industry disclosed that the Government has signed 17 memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with Chinese counterparts during the sixth Thailand-China Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation meeting on 23-24 August 2018 in Bangkok. The cooperation between two sides aims to promote new trade and investment for the flagship Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), as well as connecting the EEC to China's One Belt, One Road initiative. Phuket City Municipality and related agencies are launching an anti-smoking campaign in the city. The campaign, set to start on 23 September 2018, aims to create a clean environment for local residents and tourists, while at the same time raising public awareness about the new Tobacco Control Act. A memorandum of understanding (MOU) will be signed by public agencies and the Action on Smoking and Health Foundation to strengthen the anti-smoking effort. (24/08/2018)
The Cabinet has approved the Southern Economic Corridor development project, which will be piloted in four southern provinces, namely Chumphon, Ranong, Surat Thani, and Nakhon Si Thammarat, before being expanded to other southern provinces in the future. The project includes the development of Ranong Port as an important marine gateway to Myanmar, Bangladesh, India, and Sri Lanka; the construction of the double-track railway from the Eastern Economic Corridor to Chumphon; and the promotion of agricultural production and processing in Surat Thani and Nakhon Si Thammarat. The project is expected to transform the southern region and boost local income. (23/08/2018)
The Cabinet has given its approval to a draft law mandating training and testing of big bike riders, intended to reduce the number of accidents among motorcyclists and improve road safety. Anyone who intends to ride a high-powered motorcycle or a big bike will have to pass through training and testing first. Licenses to ride such bikes will be separate from licenses for general motorcycles. Other changes include a ban on foreign laborers who are working in Thailand on a temporary basis from driving personal vehicles. (23/08/2018)
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed that the Minister of Foreign Affairs is scheduled to visit the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Finland on 22-24 August 2018 and will be in the Kingdom of Sweden on 24-25 August 2018. The aim of discussions will be the enhancement of economic partnership, as well as cooperation at both regional and global levels. The minister will also be presiding as the Chairman of the Thai Ambassadors in Europe Meeting on 24 August 2018 to discuss the direction of Thailand-Europe relations and ways to strengthen the relationship in the context of the current regional and global developments. The Ministry of Labor revealed that the Myanmar authorities have agreed to send more workers to Thailand to work in the fishing industry through a government Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) scheme to help with labor shortages. The minister stated that the cooperation on labor movements, according to the MOU between the two countries, will be beneficial for Myanmar workers in Thailand, who are assured of receiving legal protection and not being victims of human trafficking or discrimination. The Government Spokesman Bureau disclosed that Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha and other members of the Cabinet are scheduled to visit Ranong and Chumpon provinces on 21-21 August 2018 for an inspection and a cabinet retreat. The Cabinet will meet heads of government agencies, civil servants, community leaders, employees of local administrative organizations, and public members, as well as overseeing development in the southern provinces both on the Gulf of Thailand and along the Andaman coast. This years sixth cabinet retreat will be held on 21 August 2018 in Chumpon. (18/08/2018)

The Bank of Thailand has revealed that the overall performance of commercial banks in Thailand expanded to 5.4 percent during this year's second quarter, compared to 4.7 percent during the same period last year. It is an indication that the quality of credit from commercial banks has been stable and compatible with the economic recovery. (17/08/2018)
