The Ministry of Tourism and Sports revealed that the Thailand Tourism Festival 2019 will take place on 23-27 January 2019 in Lumpini Park, Bangkok. The festival will be designed to show five tourism villages representing the regions of Thailand. Additionally, the Reduce-Reuse-Recycle waste initiative zone will be displayed to help raise awareness and promote responsible and sustainable tourism through various activities. (22/01/2019)

The Government has approved the extension of the visa-on-arrival fee waiver for the citizens of 20 countries until the end of April 2019 to attract more foreign tourists during the high travel season, such as Chinese New Year and Songkran Festival. The 20 countries eligible for the visa-on-arrival fee waiver include Andorra, Bulgaria, Bhutan, China (including Taiwan), Cyprus, Ethiopia, Fiji, India, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Papua New Guinea, Romania, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. The Ministry of Transport has announced measurements to control air pollution in Bangkok after the Particulate Matter 2.5 (PM2.5) rate is getting higher. All construction sites will strictly control the dust. Public transportation vehicles that produce pollution will be banned. The Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) plans to boost the development of rail services and the countrys cruise tourism. One of the developments of rail service is planned to attract aerospace investment to U-Tapao Airport in 2019 as part of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) project. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed that Senator the Honorable Marise Payne, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia, visited Thailand last week as a guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with Kasikorn Bank, will launch the e-visa system to facilitate visa applications for Chinese tourists at Thai consular offices in Beijing. The system will be effective, and Chinese tourists may apply for Thailand visas online starting 15 February 2019. The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society disclosed that 74,965 villages in Thailand will have access to broadband internet this year. So far, 43,533 villages have broadband access, while the remaining 15,732 villages will link up to the network by the end of 2019. The National Alcoholic Beverage Policy Committee declared that all relevant agencies have to proceed with the strict enforcement of the Alcohol Beverage Control Law to reduce the number of road accidents during New Year celebrations.
