The Khaosan Road Business Association has announced that Khao San Road will refrain from Songkran activities this year. As Khao San Road and surrounding areas will be used in the Coronation Ceremony of King Rama X in early May, they will let the related agencies fully prepare the areas for the event. (04/04/2019)
The Ministry of Commerce is preparing to increase bilateral trade with China by 12 percent this year, focusing on boosting the exports of Thai agricultural products. The Thai government will sign agreements with private organizations in April to stimulate investment in five EEC projects: the expansion of U-Tapao Airport, Laem Chabang Port, the construction of an aviation maintenance center, Map Ta Phut Industrial Port, and a high-speed rail project connecting major airports. The five projects have a combined value of about 650 billion baht. The expansion of the EEC will contribute two percent to the countrys economic growth. (02/04/2019)

The Ministry of Commerce disclosed that the ASEAN Economic Ministers Retreat is scheduled on 23-24 April 2019 in Phuket. The meeting will focus on three major contents, including future orientations, connectivity enhancement, and sustainable development. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is promoting an Earth Hour event, campaigning for the restoration of the Bang KhunThian mangrove forest on 30 March. Moreover, the BMA has also asked for cooperation from the public, private, and civil sectors to turn off lights for one hour from 8:30p.m. to 9:30p.m., for Earth Hour, on 30 March, joining 188 other countries, to save energy and reduce global warming. B.Grimm, together with Siemens and Toshiba Plant Services and Systems Corporation (TPSC), celebrate the successful completion of nine power projects. The memorandum of understanding (MOU) for services collaboration betweenthe three parties was signed at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Center (BITEC). The MOU will enable the threeparties to collaborate to improve the power plants performance, i.e., increasing the availability and efficiency of the nine facilities, as well as introducing digitalization to their operation and maintenance in the future. The National Economic and Social Development Council revealed that the development of the Southern Economic Corridor (SEC), covering 116 projects worth 106.79 billion baht, will be divided into two phases. The first plan covers 11 projects, including the upgrade of Ranong deep-sea port and the airports in four provinces. And the second plan calls for the development of tourism links between the Royal Coast tourism cluster, which includes Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon and Ranong, and the Andaman Sea. The Ministry of Finance disclosed that the 23rd ASEAN Finance Ministers Meeting (AFMM) will be organized in Chiang Rai on 3-5 April 2019. Under the theme of Advancing Partnership for Sustainability, the meeting will focus on connectivity, sustainability and immunity, and will discuss the integration of payment systems and services, the regulation of digital assets, and the use of local currencies for product and service payment, as well as promoting access to financial services. The Cabinet has approved an additional agricultural assistance budget of approximately 5.07 billion baht. The funds will go to harvesting assistance and quality development for rice farming in the 2018-2019 production year. The project is expected to help around 4 million households. The Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA) has signed a three-year memorandum of understanding (MOU) with MCOT Public Company Limited in order to develop a platform to promote digital content e-commerce, named WHAM. The Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) plans to register several more Geographical Indication (GI) products of Thailand in China and Malaysia to increase their market value and prevent possible piracy. The agency has plans to register Ratchaburi Coconut and Prachinburi Durian as products with GIs in China, as well as Thung Kula Ronghai Hom Mali Rice, Phattalung Sang Yot Rice, and Pak PhanangTubtim Siam Pomelo in Malaysia. The Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) has launched a mobile telephoneapplication called Me Claim for making insurance claims for road accidents.The app integrates the insurance claim filing system with the emergency reporting app Police I Lert U, allowing users to report road accidents to the police and alert insurance firms at the same time. This kind of technology is expected to reduce traffic congestion caused by road accidents in Bangkok. The apps trial version is now available for registered users, while the public version will be available from 9 April 2019. (21/03/2019)

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) revealed that the digital assets platform is expected to be launched in 2020. Under the three-year strategic plan for 2019-2021, the SET will focus on developing a digital infrastructure platform and a one-stop digital capital market. The Airports of Thailand PCL (AOT) revealed that Don Muang airport is proceeding with its development plan to cope with the increasing number of passengers. The plan includes the construction of more parking buildings, the construction of a new international passenger terminal, the renovation of Terminal 1 and conversion to a domestic terminal, and the expansion and renovation of aircraft parking bays, as well as the renovation of internal roads and the traffic system. The Eastern Economic Corridor Office (ECCO) disclosed that Thailand has attracted foreign investment for the robotics cluster, with several projects applying to the Board of Investment. As one of 12 industries in the S-curve, the robotics cluster is expected to grow about 19% in this year. The EECO target for investment in the robotics cluster in the EEC is 300 billion baht over the next three years. (14/03/2019)
