Despite the trade war between the United States and China, the Ministry of Commerce believes that Thailand will be able to export 10 million tons of rice this year because of the El Nino phenomenon, which has affected many countries and is increasing the demand for rice. They also plan to stimulate the sale of rice, especially in new markets, in the second half of this year. (06/06/2019)
The ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week 2019 is being held at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC) in the capitals Bang Na district from now to June 8th. This years fair focuses on technologies that generate electricity from alternative energy sources, such as wind, biomass, and biogas. Manufacturers of electric vehicles (EVs) and related technologies from 45 countries, including China, India, Germany, Japan, and South Korea, are showcasing their latest products at the event. The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) has launched the campaign named MICE Thailand Signature, which offers exclusive privileges and special discounts to MICE travelers coming to Thailand. The Office of National Water Resources (ONWR) is preparing to tackle flooding during the rainy season by monitoring the water situation nationwide, while notifying residents of the water situation throughout the country and establishing a center to handle water-related disasters that operate based on three levels of severity. The ONWR uses green, yellow, and red color codes to depict low, medium, and high levels of severity, respectively. (05/06/2019)
The Prime Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, has assigned the Ministry of Commerce to turn the impact of the trade war between China and the United States into an opportunity for Thai exporters by exploring new markets, enhancing workers skills to support trade along the countrys border, and promoting Thai products with high potential, such as agricultural produce, fruits, seafood, beverages, and cosmetics. The Ministry of Commerce will also hold free trade talks with different countries to create more economic opportunities for Thailand. (05/06/2019)
The traffic police joins hands with the related agencies to arrest motorcyclists riding on sidewalks, which is against the law and could damage the sidewalk and cause accidents. The joint operations have been launched at 233 spots around Bangkok from July 2018 to the present. In 11 months, 20,000 motorcyclists have been arrested and the fines total over 10 million baht. The Government revealed that achieving the International Civil Aviation Organizations (ICAO) standards will benefit the aviation sector and the tourism industry by creating greater confidence. The Ministry of Public Health has warned people to avoid walking through puddles and mud to prevent possible leptospirosis infections. A report shows that there have been 622 leptospirosis patients, with five fatalities in the first five months of this year. The symptoms commonly exhibited by leptospirosis patients include acute fever, shivering chills, muscle aches (especially in the thighs and calves), headaches, and red eyes. Severe symptoms from this disease may include kidney failure, leading to an inability to urinate; liver failure, causing yellow eyes and skin; tiredness; coughing blood; and shock. The Electronic Transaction Development Agency (ETDA) will organize Thailand Cyber Security 2019 to reassure people over the use of digital technology and online transactions. The event will be held on June 19 and 20 in Bangkok under the concept of cybersecurity and digital transformation. There will be more than 50 experts from international cybersecurity companies and organizations who, through seminars on more than 20 topics, will provide knowledge of the many security risks in existence. The Tourism Authority of Thailand will hold the Amazing Thai Taste Festival 2019 between 1 and 9 June 2019 at Siam Square, Bangkok. This year's event will encourage all attendees to go green by bringing their own food and drink containers for discounts from all participating stalls. The Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA) has cooperated with international business partners, such as Unity Technology Singapore, to build up Thailand as a hub of new innovation and technology for artificial reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) to support the Thailand 4.0 policy. Their cooperation will provide and transfer knowledge from other countries to local human resource in order to leverage new technology and innovations with Thai people. (01/06/2019)

The Thai Health Foundation (Thai Health) has joined hands with the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security in publishing a guidebook promoting volunteering activities and social development. The book will provide information about volunteerism to those interested in such activities. It also contains maps indicating the locations of volunteering activities from some 100 organizations in all provinces of the Kingdom. (31/05/2019)
The Department of Agricultural Extension Deputy Director, General Dares Kittiyopas, has revealed the new online farm product e-market on www.thailandpostmart.com. The new online service, launched in September 2018, has helped farmers in community enterprises, the Young Smart Farmer group, and farmers in mega-farm projects to sell their produce directly to customers by placing their orders online. Thailand Post will deliver the produce to customers shipping addresses within 24 hours from ordering, to ensure quality and convenience. (30/05/2019)
In the OTOP product selection campaign, some 15,000 entrepreneurs have submitted their products for selection this year. These products will then be subjected to the national selection process, from which they will receive final product quality scores, before receiving product ratings from 1-star to 5-star, along with an appropriate certificate. The results from this selection will be announced on 10th June 2019, followed by additional announcement on products requiring laboratory tests on 25th June. (30/05/2019)

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has signed an MOU with Alipay group in order to increase the number of high-quality visitors from China. This cooperation will help support Chinese tourists who use the financial tools to access services at restaurants, spas, hospitals, and department stores while traveling in Thailand. (30/05/2019)

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has introduced a pilot project declaring no-smoking areas in 6 districts include Mor-chit Bus Terminal, Don Muang Airport, Taling Chan Floating Market, Silom Road, Chatuchak 2 Market, and Victory Monument. It has also organized a march to encourage smokers to quit, marking this years World No Tobacco Day on May 31st. Smokers wishing to quit smoking can consult with advisors at 68 Bangkok Health Service Centers at any hospital under the jurisdiction of the BMA. (30/05/2019)
The government has announced a plan to propose that Tom Yum Gung be listed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) as part of the country's tangible cultural heritage. Culture Minister Vira Rojpojchanarat expressed hope that the proposal will be accepted by March 2020 and the cuisine be listed shortly afterward. (30/05/2019)
The Department of International Trade Promotion and related agencies kick off the 16th THAIFEX World of Food Asia 2019 at IMPACT, Muang Thong Thani. The trade show features more than 6,000 booths, and many zones have been set up for exhibitors to engage in business negotiations. The show focuses on technology, products, and designs from the food and beverage sector. It is being held until 31 May 2019 and is expected to attract 130,000 visitors and generate a trade value of 11.5 billion baht. (29/05/2019)
The 75th Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) is being held at the United Nations Conference Center in Phra Nakhon District in the capital from May 27th to May 31st. Representatives from 53 member states and nine associate members have joined the annual session to exchange ideas on trends and challenges in the development of Asia and the Pacific. (29/05/2019)
The Ministry of Commerce is organizing the Thailand Rice Convention 2019 (TRC 2019) at the Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Center. The event aims to promote Thai rice under the theme of Rice Style to show off the quality, innovation and varieties of Thai rice and its nutritional benefits that meet the demand of health-conscious consumers.
