The University of the Thai Chambers of Commerce's Center for Economic and Business Forecasting has maintained its forecast for the number of visitors to Thailand this year at 40 million, due to various tourism promotion campaigns and the extension of the visa on arrival program, which waives visa fees. The Director-General of the Department of Medical Services (DMS) has emphasized that patients must only use medical marijuana under the guidance of licensed medical professionals. He also stressed that marijuana can only be used to treat four groups of diseases, legally. Diseases with academic evidence supporting the effectiveness of marijuana extracts include cancer, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis with muscle contractions, and neuropathic pain that fails to respond to any other method of treatment. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will organize the knowledge sharing session of its annual Thailand Travel Mart Plus (TTM+) 2019 under the theme of Making the World a Better Place through Travel on 5 June 2019 at the Ocean Marina Yacht Club Pattaya, Chon Buri province. The event will cover a broad range of social, cultural, marketing, management, and development topics of critical importance to many aspects of the past, present, and future of Thai tourism. The Department of Medical Services has organized training for medical personnel in the use of medical marijuana extract. The two-day training session is aimed at helping medical personnel who order or prescribe marijuana products for patients; it will help them to understand all aspects of marijuana, such as the essence of its action, the uses for different marijuana products, related laws, and cautions for using marijuana by providing clear details to the participants. The attendees comprise 250 physicians, dentists, and pharmacists. (24/05/2019)
Under the Thailand 4.0 Policy, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society disclosed that the Laem Chabang port is planning a transformation process to become a smart port in 2020. The smart port will be equipped with operations management through digital solutions and robot management systems, as well as reducing traffic congestion inside and around the port. (24/05/2019)

Thailand and Taiwan are jointly organizing "Two Wheels Asia 2019," an international exhibition and conference for the motorcycle, electric bike and bicycle industry. The event will take place at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Center (BITEC) in Bang Na district, Bangkok, from 23 to 25 May 2019. The exhibition will bring together over 120 booths representing leading brands from Thailand, Taiwan, China, and Singapore. (23/05/2019)

The Eastern Economic Corridor Office (EECO) disclosed that the EEC committee has approved a plan to set up a Genome Sequencing Center, which aims to raise Thailands competitiveness in the medical industry. The Energy Policy and Planning Office or EPPO has cooperated with government and private agencies to organize ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week 2019, the largest event in the region to showcase energy and alternative energy innovations, from June 5-8, 2019, at BITEC Bang Na Convention Center. The event will be attended by more than 1,200 energy technology entrepreneurs from 45 countries to showcase energy innovations such as electric automotive technology, battery management systems and charging stations. The Meteorological Department has reported that northern, northeastern, central, eastern, and southern regions of Thailand will encounter heavy rain and thunderstorms during the period of 17-19 May 2019. The northeastern region is expected to have rain in 70 percent of the area. Sailors have been advised to use caution, as big waves are likely. The rainfall will relieve the extreme heat that has persisted for many months and will also benefit crops. (16/05/2019)
The Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPAC) is organizing sales events offering discounted goods from the governments Blue Flag campaign to locals in the South during the Ramadan period. The goods being offered at the events include rice, cooking oil and sugar which are marked down by 20% of their original prices. The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) disclosed that the contract to build the high-speed train system linking the countrys three main international airports is making progress and it will be submitted to the Cabinet for approval on 28 May 2019. Tarutao National Park has announced the temporary closure of Adang-Rawi Archipelago from 16 May to 14 October because of strong winds and high waves. Meanwhile, Lipe and Tarutao islands are open for tourism throughout the year. The Public Relations Department (PRD) and the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) are to hold a Thai country music singing contest. The winner will be awarded a trophy cup from His Majesty the King and a one million baht prize. The contest will take five consecutive weeks with 12 contestants for each week. Only six contestants will qualify for the final round. The contest will be broadcast live every Sunday on NBT2HD, Facebook Live, and NBT2HDs webpage until June 16th. (15/05/2019)

The 10 cultural destinations include Hinoki Land in Chiang Mai, Doi Tung in Chiang Rai, Jim Thompson Farm in Nakhon Ratchasima, the Nong Nooch Tropical Garden in Chon Buri, the Sanctuary of Truth in Chon Buri, the Buffalo Village in Suphan Buri, Woodland Muangmai in Nakhon Pathom, the Ancient City in Samut Prakan, the Siam Niramit theatre in Bangkok, and the Phuket Fantasy theatre. The Ministry of Commerce has stated that the new tariffs from the trade war between China and the United States will not affect the export sector of Thailand but create more opportunities for Thai exporters to expand their businesses. The ministry is continuing to find new markets for Thai exporters, helping to avoid any impact from the US-China trade row, by penetrating markets in secondary cities in the US, China, India, and other countries. The Ministry of Transport has been preparing to accommodate commutes during the new school term or from now until May 24th. In Bangkok, the Department of Land Transport has dispatched inspectors to work with the traffic police to ensure safety and orderliness in front of schools and at commuting hubs. Meanwhile, provincial Land Transport offices have been instructed to ensure that operators of school buses and private hire vehicles strictly follow ministerial regulations and traffic law. According to the Quartermaster Division of the Royal Thai Police, a biometrics system for facial and fingerprint identification is being introduced to enhance immigration checkpoints nationwide. The system will be used to verify the identity of individuals entering or departing the country via land, sea and air. The installation of the biometrics device used to replace the traditional scanning system is 70% complete. The device has been scheduled for full operation by June 30th. (13/05/2019)
