Nakhon Nan Buddhist College, Mahachulalongkornrajawidyalaya University, in cooperation with the Association of Food Shop Entrepreneurs in Nan Province, has opened Nakhon Nan Buddhist College Food Center at Wat Phrathat Chae Haeng. To comply with the Food Safety Policy, the food center will provide appetizing, hygienic, and healthy food services at reasonable prices to the general public and tourists who come to visit Wat Phrathat Chae Haeng. The Cabinet has approved 6 billion baht to reduce the buying of burned sugar cane plants by sugar factories. The Ministry of Industry plans to issue the regulations to decrease burning sugar cane and aims to achieve zero burning by 2022. The regulations limit buying burned sugar cane in factories and support financial credit for farmers. (12/06/2019)
The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) will present the High-Speed Rail Linked 3 Airport project to the National Environment Board for approval on June 24, 2019. The SRT is expected to sign a joint venture agreement with Charoen Pokphand Holdings (CPH) in early July this year. The 220-billion-baht project is aimed at developing an infrastructure in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) by connecting Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok with Suvarnabhumi Airport in Samut Prakan province and U-Tapao Rayong-Pattaya Airport in Rayong province, covering 220 kilometers of seamless railway routes. The High-Speed Rail Linked 3 Airport project is likely to start operations in 2024. (12/06/2019)
Dr. Wijarn Simachaya, the Permanent Secretary for Natural Resources and Environment, said the public and private sectors have cooperated well to stop using plastic cap seals in water bottles. So far, five major bottled water producers in Thailand have stopped using plastic cap seals since April 1, 2018, which accounted for 80% of the total plastic cap seal usage in the country. The remaining 20% are small producers, and they are expected to stop using plastic cap seals by the end of this year. The public and private sectors have stepped up to reduce the use of plastic bags, Styrofoam containers, and plastic glasses and straws. They are expected to stop using all these items entirely by 2021. At present, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has banned the imports and sales of cosmetics containing microbeads. While Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) has also banned the imports, sales, and production of oxo-degradable plastics. (12/06/2019)

The Thailand Education Partnership (TEP) has launched a platform for all sectors to share their ideas on education development in the kingdom, in order to adapt Thailands education system to global changes. The TEP Forum was held under the theme "The New Image of Thai Education: Improve Thai Education with the Power of All People". The event attracted people working in the education sector, as well as students and their parents, members of the local community, and entrepreneurs who want to see positive changes to the Thai education system. Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha has revealed that the Government is proceeding in accordance with the WHO's recent resolution on improving the transparency of market pricing of medicines, vaccines, and other health products. They issued a regulation requiring private hospitals to clearly display the prices of medicines. Private hospitals are also required to provide cost estimates to patients before providing medical services. There are also subcommittees to receive complaints about unusually expensive treatments in Bangkok and other provinces. (11/06/2019)
OTOP Midyear 2019: OTOP Signature will be held from 15 - 23 June at Challenger Building, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani. Community Development Department Director General Nisit Chansomwong, said that there will be more than 2,500 booths selling over 25,000 OTOP products and offering various attractions including an exhibition in honor of His Majesty the King; and a display of Highlight OTOP Signature products from Nawatwithee OTOP Tourism Communities in eight villages of four regions. The fourth Ayeyawady Chao Phraya Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) on tourism cooperation will be held in Chiang Rai on 11-15 June 2019 under the theme The River of Life. The meeting will be hosted by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and attended by tourism ministers and senior officials from five countries: Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Thailand. The meeting is aimed at developing collaboration on economy, investment, and tourism, as well as laying out strategies to push ACMECS to achieve its goal of Five Countries, One Destination. Key visual landmark of ACMECS members which include Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom from Cambodia, Pha That Luang from Lao PDR, the Kyaiktiyo Pagoda from Myanmar, Ho Chi Minh City from Vietnam, and the Grand Palace from Thailand will be presented during the meeting to promote the use of tourism among member countries by connecting routes and cultural heritage. Also, tourism ministers will approve a logo for tourism promotion in ACMECS member countries. (10/06/2019)
On 9 June 2019, the governor of Sisaket province revealed that the Volcanic Durian Festival, Rubber and Innovation 2019 and Sisaket Bike Rally 2019 will be held from 20 to 30 June at the Sisaket Provincial Hall. All of the income gained from the event will be used to provide medical equipment for Khun Han Hospital. (10/06/2019)
The Department of Industrial Promotion and eight leading Thai universities have signed an MOU to promote the application of research, knowledge, technology, and innovation to improve and develop the industrial sector. The MOU will be able to elevate the competitiveness of Thai entrepreneurs, which is one of the objectives of the 20-year National Strategy. Thailand will host the 4th Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Summit (ACMECS) on the theme the River of Life from June 11th to 15th in Chiang Rai. The event will allow member countries to exchange information on tourism and discuss investment. The discussions will focus on tourism cooperation under a five-year framework, which covers public relations and marketing, the linking of tourism products, the exchange of information on tourism, safety, personnel development, and public participation. The ASEAN Microbial Database (AmiBase) has been launched to aid scientific research in the Southeast Asia region. The database is a result of cooperation between the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (Biotech), ASEAN Network on Microbial Utilization (AnMicro), and ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB). AmiBases information consists of big data about microbes in ASEAN countries, where there are more than 30,000 species, including bacteria, archaea, fungi, algae, protozoans, and viruses. AmiBase data are disseminated via the AmiBase website (www.amibase.org). The user-friendly website is easy to search. It also provides online tools for microbe analytics. This resourceful database can fully support scientific discoveries and innovations for the development of bioeconomy in ASEAN. AmiBase is a result of contributions by ASEAN countries for a sustainable future, which is in line with the theme of Thailands ASEAN Chairmanship in 2019, Advancing Partnership for Sustainability. An agreement to develop and manufacture of automatic basic health checkup devices was signed among the National Health Security Office (NHSO), the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC), and the National Science and Technology Development Agency to provide better access to basic health for the general public and promote health awareness. Used for blood pressure, body weighting, and body mass index (BMI) measuring, the devices will process data and come up with medical recommendations to the users. The data will be linked to the users mobile phone and securely stored on cloud storage. In the initial stage, 10 devices will be set up at BAAC this July. (07/06/2019)
The Ministry of Transport has revealed that the MRT Blue Line extension, from Hua Lamphong to Bang Khae, will launch the system testing on 12 August 2019 and allow passengers to use its service free of charge for one month. They will open for commercial use in September 2019. The connected line between Tao Poon and Tha Phra will open for trial on 1 January 2020 and will officially launch in March 2020. (07/06/2019)
The Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University has successfully transplanted cornea stem cells after 12 years of research. Siriraj Hospital has so far transplanted cornea stem cells on 75 patients. The rate of success for the first and second methods are 70 percent and 83 percent, respectively. Siriraj Hospital's Faculty of Medicine is also planning to work with other hospitals in conducting research on cornea stem cell transplants to familiarize medical professionals with the procedure. Despite the trade war between the United States and China, the Ministry of Commerce believes that Thailand will be able to export 10 million tons of rice this year because of the El Nino phenomenon, which has affected many countries and is increasing the demand for rice. They also plan to stimulate the sale of rice, especially in new markets, in the second half of this year. (06/06/2019)
The ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week 2019 is being held at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC) in the capitals Bang Na district from now to June 8th. This years fair focuses on technologies that generate electricity from alternative energy sources, such as wind, biomass, and biogas. Manufacturers of electric vehicles (EVs) and related technologies from 45 countries, including China, India, Germany, Japan, and South Korea, are showcasing their latest products at the event.
