The Director-General of the Department of Foreign Trade (DFT) revealed that, in the first six months of 2019, the total value of Thai border trade equaled 686 billion baht, increasing 1.16 percent. These values include exports (381 billion baht) and imports (304 billion baht), which therefore gives Thailand a trade surplus of approximately 77 billion baht. Malaysia is Thailands biggest border trade partner, followed by Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia, as well as southern China, Vietnam, and Singapore. The total value of 2019 border trade is expected to be 1.6 trillion baht, increasing 15 percent, according to the DFT. (05/08/2019)
The Ministry of Labor has established the human resource development center on automation and robots at the Institute for Skills Development 3, which is located in Chon Buri province. The center will enhance workers skills in modern technologies and create trainers on automation systems such as industrial robot control and automation coding. (04/08/2019)

Following an announcement by the World Health Organization (WHO) declaring the Ebola virus a global health emergency, the Ministry of Public Health stated that Thailand has enforced disease prevention and control measures. The ministry also confirmed that there are currently no cases of Ebola virus infection in Thailand. The control measures include monitoring of foreign visitors and Thai people who are traveling from the infection areas, as well as the preparation of laboratory tests and treatment measures for suspected victims. The Ministry of Education plans to push for the inclusion of a third language in the curricula of Thai students, in addition to English and Thai. This new language is computer programming language or coding. Basically, the coding is the language used to develop applications, websites, and software. (31/07/2019)

The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) revealed that, to commemorate the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the Kings 67th birthday, MEA has decorated roads and 36 landmarks with 4.5 billion lights, for a total of 12 kilometers of decorative LED lights along the roads. The roads and buildings that are decorated include Ratchawithi Road, Nakhonratchasima Road, Sri Ayutthaya Road, U-thong Nai Road, Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall, Government House, Sukhothai Palace, Chitralada Palace, and many more. The light decorations will be on display until 4 August, at the hours of 18.00-24.00 daily. (30/07/2019)
The Government Public Relations Department (PRD) is organizing a press briefing and study tour on Medical Cannabis in Thailand in Bangkok and Pathum Thani province on 1-2 August 2019. The program aims to raise awareness about cannabis-based treatments in both modern and alternative medicine, as well as the guidelines and laws on the use of cannabis for medical purposes in Thailand. The Director-General of the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine (DTAM) disclosed that, to conform with the 20-year National Strategy, DTAM has consistently supported the development of the use of Thai herbs and promotion of wisdom involving herbal products, in order to be acknowledged and trusted globally. Currently, DTAM, in cooperation with networks and private businesses, is utilizing big data to integrate the available information about herb planters, good producers, consumers, and markets systematically. Since 2016, 350 high-quality Thai herb products have been given awards. DTAM continues to train entrepreneurs and herb companies, and expects that, during the period 2019-2022, the value of trade will double from 180 billion to 360 billion baht. (26/07/2019)
The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society revealed that the Cabinet has approved the Pracharat internet network project as Open Access Network. The service will cover 24,700 villages to promote public access to high-speed internet at reasonable service fees, and to address social inequality. (26/07/2019)

The Minister of Energy has brought forward urgent plans to help people manage fuel costs, which also include having PTT Public Company Limited continue to cap LPG and NGV prices. Energy Minister said the ministry had coordinated with the oil and gas company to consider extending the period of fixing LPG prices for low-income earners and NGV prices for operators of public transport to September. PTT has allocated 30 million baht a month in subsidies to cap the price of LPG. (24/07/2019)
The Secretariat of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) revealed that NBTC is operating high-speed internet services in 3,920 villages in remote areas, under the Universal Service Obligation, or USO NET, which is a part of the Governments Smart Network project. The aims of the project are to provide high-speed internet services nationwide, and to offer low-income earners a chance to elevate their career and living standard. Currently, 36,814 out of the total of 394,904 listed households have already registered for 30/10 Mbps high-speed internet, which will be free of charge for three years. (24/07/2019)

As Chairman of ASEAN in 2019, Thailands Ministry of Foreign Affairs will host the 52nd ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting (52nd AMM), the Post Ministerial Conferences (PMCs), and related meetings from July 29th to August 3rd in Bangkok. Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai will chair the AMM and co-chair the PMCs with the Dialogue Partners and other meetings, which include AMM's Interface with the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights, the 20th ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers Meeting, the 9th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers Meeting, and the 26th ASEAN Regional Forum. On 23 July, the Ministry of Interior, in cooperation with Airports of Thailand (AOT), held a departure and blessing ceremony for Muslim Thai pilgrims to the 2019 Hajj. The ceremony was presided over by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, at Suvarnabhumi Airport. It was held in order to support Muslim Thais and facilitate their pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. A total of 8,462 Muslim Thais are expected to participate in Hajj this year. (23/07/2019)

The Department of Mental Health has launched a collaboration with the "Ooca" phone application to provide an online consultation channel in order to reduce the risk of depression and suicide among children and adolescents. The application is under the formers Kamphaeng Phak Jai Project to provide mental health support to the younger population. The "Ooca" application will be used to provide an online consultation channel to reduce the risk of depression and suicide among children and adolescents. Psychiatrists or psychologists will provide service online through the apps virtual hospital. (22/07/2019)
The Royal Thai Navy has transported the Suphannahong Royal Barge from the National Museum of Royal Barges to the Thonburi Naval Dockyard in preparation for the royal barge procession by the end of this year. The Suphannahong Royal Barge was transported from the National Museum of Royal Barges on Arum Amarin road in Bangkok Noi district in Bangkok, and has been moored at Thonburi Naval Dockyard. The royal barge procession, as part of nationwide celebrations of His Majesty the Kings coronation, is to take place on the Chao Phraya River on October 24th. (22/07/2019)
The Ministry of Culture is holding The 237th Streets of Rattanakosin, an exhibition of creative photographic works shot on Rattanakosin Island, during the year in which Thailands capital city of Bangkok celebrates the 237th anniversary of its founding. The event is organized by the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture (OCAC), which has provided a total of 67 works, including 23 award-winning works, 41 featured works selected by the committee, and three works by the committee members themselves. They are displayed to commemorate the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the Kings 67th birthday. Those who are interested can participate in the event from now to 30 July (except on Mondays and holidays), during the hours of 10.0019.00, at Exhibition Room 5, Ratchadamnoen Contemporary Art Center (RCAC), Bangkok. The event aims to accelerate Bangkoks position as a top shopping destination for international visitors and Thai shoppers.
