Thailand Lighting Fair is scheduled on 28-30 October 2019 at BITEC, Bangkok. The Thailand Lighting Fair is ASEANs leading trade fair on lighting technology, design, and application. The fair is segmented into three sections: lighting accessories and electronic components; commercial, city, and architectural lighting; and lighting art and designer lighting fixtures. (20/10/2019)

In order to promote tourism and stimulate the economy in the late months of 2019, the Tourism Authority of Thailand has introduced Thiao Wan Thammada Rakha Shock Lok, a campaign to promote traveling on working days, offering the cheapest prices in Thailand. The campaign includes promotions of Thai products and services with international standards, as well as package tours in numerous communities with discounts of up to 80%. The Khon Kaen Smart City & MICE City Expo 2019 is scheduled on 21-25 October 2019 from 08.00 to 17.00 hr daily at the Science Park, Khon Kaen University. This project aims to mobilize innovative urbanization of Khon Kaen province as a Smart City and a MICE City (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions City). The activities include meetings, academic seminars, and an exhibition of innovative products with technology for daily life. (18/10/2019)
In order to solve Thailands plastic garbage problem, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), in cooperation with the Mall Group Company Limited, has introduced a campaign to invite the general public to reduce plastic bag use. On 16 October, at 17.00 hr, the Minister, MNRE officials, and the companys executives had a walk rally and distributed cloth bags to the public, in order to commence promoting the use of cloth bags instead of plastic bags from 1 January 2020 onwards. In this regard, 46 department stores and shops nationwide will stop providing disposable plastic bags to customers. The ultimate aim of the campaign is to stop the use of disposable plastic bags in Thailand by 2021. (18/10/2019)
The Ministry of Public Health has accelerated the development of organ transplant capability in order to help patients gain access to organ transplant services. The aim is to reduce mortality and disability, as well as returning patients to a normal life as quickly as possible. In 2019, so far, there are 293 people who have donated organs for transplanting, while there are 675 patients with access to the organ transplant service. (17/10/2019)

The Altruistic Hearts campaign has been launched to promote the use of reusable fabric bags. Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, who presided at the event, has encouraged people to use the reusable bags, instead of single-use plastic bags, to help reduce waste and the effects of global warming. (16/10/2019)
The Cabinet has approved two additional holidays, 4 and 5 November 2019, in Bangkok and Nonthaburi to decrease the congestion during the 35th ASEAN Summit. The Summit and related meetings will take place between 2 and 6 November 2019 at Impact Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi province. (16/10/2019)
The Center for Economic and Business Forecasting of the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC) has reported that the Chim Shop Chai (Taste, Shop, Use) campaign helps boost domestic spending as it has gained interest among the public. UTCC has forecast that the second phase of this campaign will help the Thai economy expand by 3% this year. (16/10/2019)
The Buffalo Racing Festival is scheduled on 12 October 2019 in Chonburi province. The festival aims to show farmers gratitude to their buffalos after working hard to make their farms productive. The Queen Sirikit Department of Sericulture will be holding the ninth Celebration of Silk: Thai Silk Road to the World 2019, on 18-22 November, at Central World Bangkok. The event includes international exhibitions of Thai silk fashion week, and Thai Silk Road to the World. Moreover, the highlights of the event will be a gala fashion show on 23 November, held at the Royal Thai Navy Convention Center, featuring Thai silk produced by the Foundation for the Promotion of Supplementary Occupations and Related Techniques (SUPPORT), under the royal patronage of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand. The Ministry of Public Health disclosed that the HIMSS Thailand National Digital Healthcare Workforce Development Initiative has launched the HIMSS AsiaPac 2019 conference in Bangkok. This initiative aims to develop a three-year work plan to address the demand of patients for digital healthcare services, in light of the Thailand 4.0 policy, as well as healthcare tourism. Smart Energy Transformation Asia 2019 (SETA 2019), Asias most important energy exhibition and conference, is scheduled for 10-12 October at the BITEC exhibition center, Bang Na, Bangkok, Thailand. The highlight of the event is a showcase of electrically powered vehicles, including electric vehicle (EV) park and change and a collective system of battery energy storage, which are attracting the attention of people attending the exhibition. The Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) presented Smart Micro Grid, Beta Energy, which introduced new technology for energy storage systems. (11/10/2019)
The Ministry of Public Health revealed that the Government has opened a system to support health insurance for foreigners who apply for a temporary residence permit, or Non-Immigrant Visa O-A code, for one year. All foreigners given a one-year long-stay period are requested to purchase health insurance through www.longstay.tgia.org. This implementation will be effective from 31 October 2019 onwards. To conform with the workforce transformation policy, the Ministry of Labor has opened the Manufacturing Automation and Robotics Academy (MARA) in Chonburi province, in order to promote innovations, AI, automation, and robotics development, as well as preparing and developing workers to become high-skilled and able to work with modern technologies. It will also support the Governments EEC mega-project. The operations of MARA are based on the cooperation of the state, business groups, and educational sectors, in order to produce approximately 2,000 skilled workers in automation and robotics in 2020, with 42 curriculums. The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives plans to classify paraquat, glyphosate, and chlorpyrifos in the Type 4 category, starting from December, as chemicals considered to be a danger to farmers and consumers. Chemicals in the Type 4 category can be prohibited for production, import, export, and distribution. The ministry will propose their decision to the National Hazardous Substances Committee for approval on 27 October 2019. (10/10/2019)
The Office of National Water Resources has disclosed that Thailand is expecting heavy rain in 14 provinces, with heightened flood risks in southern provinces from 15 October 2019. They have coordinated with the Royal Irrigation Department (RID) and the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) to install equipment, such as water pumps, flow accelerators, and excavators in the flood risk areas, and notify villagers to prepare for a potential disaster. The Environmental Justice Foundation's Executive Director, Mr. Steve Trent, during a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan in Bangkok, has praised Thailand for being the first country in the region to overcome illegal, unregulated, unreported (IUU) fishing. He also stated that Thailand is becoming a model for other countries around the world trying to achieve this goal. The EU lifted the yellow-card warning from Thailand earlier this year, after being labeled a violator since 2015. (10/10/2019)
On 9 October, the Government Public Relations Department (PRD) held a media briefing on the Royal Barge Procession to be held on the occasion of the Coronation of King Rama X, in order to provide the media with accurate and up-to-date information on the ceremony. Distinguished speakers came to inform the media on various topics, such as the arrangement of the barges in the procession and facilitation for the general public and members of the press attending the event, including rules and regulations for photographers and cameramen. The media were also informed that PRD would provide four locations specifically for the press: Santi Chai Prakarn Park, the area under Phra Pin Klao Bridge, the Royal Thai Naval Institute, and Tha Rot Fai Pier, which will be able to hold approximately 200 persons.
