The Ministry of Transport disclosed that the second Thai-Myanmar friendship bridge is now available for public service. The bridge will be a new link between Mae Sot district of Thailand and Myawaddy district of Myanmar, in order to increase border trade between the two countries. The ministry expects that the bridge will support border trade up to 100 billion baht per year, up from the current level of 78 billion baht. (01/11/2019)

During the event Digital Government Awards 2019, The Prime Minister disclosed that Thailand must make a giant leap and adjust to the digital age and the worlds situation, with fast, convenient, and transparent digital services. For this reason, the government and relevant sectors need to refit their services and information systems in order to have effective linkages both nationally and regionally, as well as readying for upcoming innovations. In this regard, the government will be accelerating the auction for the fifth generation (5G) of cellular mobile communications, in order to support the digital government in the future. (01/11/2019)
Because of Thailands imminent removal from the United States Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), next April, the Ministry of Labor revealed that the ministry and related agencies have been working together on labor protection issues to adhere to international standards. Efforts have included the elimination of the worst forms of child labor, which has seen success on many levels for two consecutive years. Also, it has resolved human trafficking issues and had its status upgraded to Tier 2, and it has improved labor protection in the fishing industry, resulting in its release from the yellow status in illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. Mr. JurinLaksanawisit, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Commerce, disclosed that Thailand is still able to export products to the United States, even though it will be removed from the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) as of April 2020, but this may cause Thailand to have higher tax payments, up to 1.5-1.8 billion baht. However, the Thai government, via the Royal Thai Embassy and diplomats concerned with labor affairs in the US, has had a dialogue with the United States Trade Representative (USTR) to reconsider this cutoff. Additionally, the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Labor, and Commerce will be looking for ways to get the US government to reconsider this issue. As for a long-term solution, the Ministry of Commerce, in cooperation with related sectors, will be stimulating Thai exports in more than 10 main global markets, such as the US, China, India, South Africa, South Asia, the Middle East, Japan, South Korea, Turkey, Germany, the United Kingdom, and other European markets. The Ministry of Transport has insisted that the Airports of Thailand (AOT) will not cancel operations at Hat Yai airport in Songkhla or at Mae Fah Luang airport in Chiang Rai, after a rumor spread on social networks. They reassured the public that those airports are still developing, along with six other AOT airports, to support tourism. (30/10/2019)
Thailand will host the 35th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits from 31 October to 5 November 2019. A number of roads in Bangkok and Nonthaburi will be temporarily closed to traffic for some hours. According to the World Banks Ease of Doing Business 2020" report, Thailand is ranked as 21st among 190 countries, moving up six places from last year. The government has promoted the Smart City project and used modern technology to set up its infrastructure. The government has applied digital technology in the agricultural sector, from growing and harvesting crops to processing and marketing, and set up the Big Data system to help rice farmers. The Catholic singers are honored to welcome Pope Francis at a Missa ceremony at Suphachalasai Stadium, the National Stadium, on 21November. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed that Thailand is scheduled to host the 35th ASEAN Summit and related summits during 2-4 November 2019 at Impact Convention Center, Muangthong Thani, Nonthaburi province. The Ministry of Industry revealed that the Cabinet has approved the draft Memorandum of Understanding on Economic Cooperation between the Office of the Eastern Economic Corridor and the government of Guangdong, China. The draft MOU is aimed at strengthening economic cooperation between the two parties in the fields of mutual interest, i.e. connectivity between the EEC and the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, S-Curve industry development, R&D and innovation, and human resource development. The exhibition on the Royal Barge Procession on the occasion of the Coronation of King Rama X, organized by the Ministry of Culture, has now commenced. The event has been divided into four sections: (1) the exhibition of the Coronation of King Rama X, the Royal Barge procession, and arts, (2) the exhibition of the models of four royal barges, (3) a light and sound show on a water curtain to celebrate the Coronation of King Rama X, and (4) the exhibition of mouth-watering Thai food from renowned restaurants nationwide. The Ministry of Defense has given reassurances for the safety of the ASEAN Summit on 2-4 November 2019. It has instructed all related agencies to work closely with security agencies in order to be on high alert for any potential situation, and it aims to prevent the spread of disinformation that may affect the relationship between ASEAN members. The Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives have agreed to study the use of three dangerous chemicals, namely Paraquat, Chlorpyrifos, and Glyphosate, in agriculture. Deputy Government Spokesperson Ratchada Dhanadirek disclosed that the Government has urged all relevant sectors to support the development of the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT). The three main instruments for implementing progress are customs integration, agricultural cooperation, tourism, and halal products. The Royal Forest Department will be holding running events for the charity Wing Phithak Rak Pa Challenge, in order to raise funds for necessary wildfire protection equipment and for solving smog problems. The program will be categorized into three events: (1) a three-kilometer run, held at Vachirabenjatas Park (Suan Rot Fai), on 10 December 2019, (2) a five-kilometer run, held in Thong Pha Phum, Kanchanaburi, on 14 February 2020, and (3) a VIP run, held at Nakhon Khuean Khan Green Area and Eco-management Center, Samut Prakan, on 21 March 2020. After the postponement of the Royal Barge Procession, it has been rescheduled for 12 December. The Royal Thai Navy has scheduled four rehearsals on 12, 19, and 26 November, and 3 December, and the dress rehearsal will be held on 9 December.
