The Prime Minister, General Prayut Chan-o-cha, granted an audience to His Excellency Mr. Shiro Sadoshima, the Ambassador of Japan, for a valedictory ceremony on the conclusion of his mission to Thailand. On this occasion, the Prime Minister expressed his admiration for His Excellency, because of his vision and achievements in boosting mutual economic cooperation, especially in the areas of human resource development, Japanese investment in Thailand, and Thai-Japanese startup promotion. In addition, Thailand and Japan agreed to strengthen their ties much more closely in every aspect. (17/12/2019)
The International Conference on Climate Change and Global Warming is scheduled on 17-18 December 2019 at the Amari Watergate Bangkok. The conference aims to bring together leading academic scientists and researchers to share their experiences and research results on all aspects of climate change and global warming. It also provides a premier interdisciplinary platform for researchers, practitioners, and educators, as they present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns, as well as practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted in the fields of climate change and global warming. The Ministry of Justice has launched the 1st National Action Plan (NAP) on Business and Human Rights (2019-2022), marking Thailand as the 1st country in Asia to adopt the National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights. The preparation of the NAP is based on a participatory process involving all concerned parties including government sectors, state owned enterprises, business sectors and civil societies. The One Tambon One Product (OTOP) City 2019 event is taking place at Challenger Hall 1-3, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, on 15-23 December 2019. During the Royal Barge Procession on the occasion of the Coronation of King Rama X, and the Royal Land Procession, Khabuan Rap,on 12 December, the viewing locations along the riverbanks, Ratchawordit pier, Na Phra Lan Road, and Ratchadamnoen Road were crowded with throngs of spectators. Well-wishers flocked to the venues from early in the morning, hoping to get a glimpse of and pay homage to Their Majesties and members of the Royal Family. When the processions passed by, the crowds all waved the royal flag and the flag of Thailand to express their delight and loyalty, and with one heart, they offered their best wishes to Their Majesties and members of the Royal Family. The Ministry of Public Health revealed that Moroccos secretary-general of the Health Ministry and his team paid a visit to Thailand to study how the Kingdom manages its universal health coverage (UHC). The highlight of this visit included a memorandum of understanding on collaborating with Thailand. The Morocco team appreciated Thailands health system, which aims to develop a benefits package, financial management, and collaboration between the government and private healthcare facilities. On the occasion of the Royal Procession by Water (the Royal Barge Procession) to be held on 12 December 2019, and on the occasion of the Coronation Ceremony of King Rama X, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand has been assigned by the Royal Thai Government to invite members of the diplomatic and consular corps, and their spouses, to attend an audience with His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen, and members of the Royal Family, at King Rama VIII Statute, King Rama VIII Memorial Park. The members of the diplomatic and consular corps and their spouses, both with residence in Thailand and non-resident Ambassadors, totalling 160 persons representing 105 countries, will attend the event. The State Railway of Thailand will set four special routes on 12 December 2019 in order to provide convenience to members of the public on the occasion of the Royal Barge Procession for the Coronation of King Rama X. The routes include Ayutthaya - Bangkok, Nakhon Pathom - Thonburi (Bangkok), Chachoengsao - Bangkok, and Mahachai (Samut Sakhon) - Wongwian Yai (Bangkok). The Ministry of Labor disclosed that the Cabinet has approved the increment of the minimum daily wage by 5-6 baht, from 308-330 baht to 313-336 baht, which will be effective on 1 January 2020. The 6-baht increment will apply in Bangkok, Chon Buri, Phuket, Prachin Buri, Samut Prakan, and Samut Sakhon, while the 5-baht increment will apply in the other provinces. (11/12/2019)

On 12 December, because of the Royal Barge Procession on the occasion of the Coronation of King Rama X, the following transportation services will be provided free of charge for the general public during the event: BTS Green Line (Kheha Kasetsart University, and National Stadium Bang Wa), Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) (from Sathon to Ratchaphruek), and boat services, which include (1) boat services in Phadung Krung Kasem Canal (from Hua Lamphong to Thewarat Market), and (2) boat services in Saen Saep Canal (from Paseo Mall to Sri Boonruang Temple). During the Royal Barge Procession on the occasion of the Coronation of King Rama X, which is taking place on 12 December, the Government will provide several services for members of the general public attending the event. The provided services include (1) 27 parking locations, such as Muang Thong Thani, Kasetsart University, Central Plaza Rama II, BITEC Bang Na, MRT Ratchada parking area, and BMA Bangkok City Hall, (2) shuttle bus services on 19 routes throughout the city heading to the nine locations near the venues, such as Rama VIII Bridge, Sanam Luang, and Phra Pin Klao Bridge (Phra Nakhon), (3) 30 food and water service points, and (4) 54 mobile toilet trucks in 22 locations and 20 temporary water closets in two locations. In addition, the Government will be setting up 19 screening points where the presentation of ID card or passport will be required for members of the public who would like to attend the event, such as the Pipit Banglamphu Museum, the entrance of Thammasat University, Sanam Luang, Tha Phra Chan, and Wang Lang pier. Today (9 December), the Royal Thai Navy is holding the last rehearsal before the Royal Barge Procession on the occasion of the Coronation of King Rama X takes place on 12 December. All 52 barges are fully decorated, traveling from Wasukri pier to Ratchaworadit pier. Because of the procession, traffic and transportation on the river will be controlled from 04.00 to 17.00 hr. The river will be completely closed from 10.30 to 13.00 hr, from Krung Thon Buri Bridge to the Royal Thai Navy Convention Center and Wat Suwannaram Ratchaworawihan, and from 13.00 to 17.00 hr, from Krung Thon Buri Bridge to Phra Pok Klao Bridge. To prevent travel problems, the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) is now providing cross-river buses free of charge for the general public during the event, from 10.30 to 19.30 hr. (09/12/2019)

The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) has revealed that its underground cable tunnel project is now 69% complete. The project has two routes through central Bangkok, with a length of 1,800 meters, and it will be the largest power supply tunnel in Thailand in the future. The tunnel and cables are expected to be in operation in late 2020. (09/12/2019)
The Consulate General of the People's Republic of China has opened a Chinese Visa Application Service Center in Chiang Mai to assist travelers who wish to apply for a visa to travel to China, Hong Kong, or Macau. The Chinese Consulate General in Chiang Mai will handle applications for notarization, legalization, Chinese passports, and travel documents from Monday to Friday, except on public holidays and substitute holidays, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (09/12/2019)
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports plans to promote Buddhist and cultural tourism routes linking Nakhon Phanom with Sakon Nakhon and Mukdahan to stimulate spending per trip and prolong stays. The new routes will offer tourists an experience of the local way of life in various communities. The ministry expects a 5% increase in tourism arrivals over last year. (08/12/2019)

The National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) disclosed that the private sector and civil society are being urged to join forces with the Government to drive the country's economic and social development to achieve long-term, plans as well as driving progress in line with the countrys 20-year national strategic plan. The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society revealed that the anti-fake news center, which was formally launched on 1 November 2019, has accelerated its work to detect the misuse of social media platforms to deceive people. According to the ministrys study, elderly people were found to be the greatest source of inaccurate information online. The ministry, in cooperation with related agencies, will do more to raise public awareness of fake news and how to deal with it. (06/12/2019)

Today (4 December), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) is holding a Thai Environment Day event, under the theme of Save the World, the World Will Save Us Forever. The event is meant to raise awareness of environmental issues among the general public, especially the reduction of disposable plastic bag use. According to a Suan Dusit poll, 90% of the questionnaire respondents nationwide agreed with a policy of reducing disposable plastic bag use. In addition, the Permanent Secretary of MNRE disclosed that 76 supermarket and convenience store businesses nationwide will stop providing plastic bag services for their customers from 1 January 2020 onwards.
