To tackle the changes that communities may face in the future, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) to stipulate the framework of housing development for Thai citizens. The framework would include environmental management, traffic management, and city planning. Housing development is one of the Governments achievements in its goal of looking after the general public, particularly the low-income and middle-income earners, by means of numerous economy stimulation measures. The Asian Recycling and Sustainability Conference is scheduled on 19 February 2020 at Hyatt Regency hotel in Bangkok. The conference will address an across-the-board overview of the strategies from pillars of the value chain including producers, brand owners, and recyclers, Panel discussion gathering regulators in Asia sharing their insights on creating a circular economy road map in the region. The Government Public Relations Department (PRD) is organizing a culinary activity titled Thai Gastronomy and Food Culture in Thailand Season 2 on 14 February 2020 at the Blue Elephant Restaurant, South Sathon Road, Bangkok. The activity aims to promote some of Thailands culinary delights, well-recognized in the view of foreigners, as well as to share the knowledge of Thai cooking with the international community. The Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has organised a briefing on the COVID-19 situation in Thailand for international partners including Embassies, NGOs and other civil society organisations. The MOPH stated that communication is an important key in combating this virus and the Government has multiple platforms for information about COVID-19 such as a national hotline 1422, governments social media channels and daily press briefings. The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced the name for the new coronavirus disease: COVID-19 (C-O-V-I-D hyphen one nine). The acronym stands for coronavirus disease 2019, as the illness was first detected toward the end of last year. (12/02/2020)

The Ministry of Justice has set up an aid operations center for family members of those impacted by the shooting rampage over the weekend to register for assistance. Meanwhile, various agencies and organizations have offered assistance to those killed and injured by the tragedy, too. The Department of Mental Health is taking care of those who have a mental health crisis from the incident. Anyone who has been emotionally affected by the incident can call for advice at a mental health hotline 1323 or 044-233999, 24 hours a day. (12/02/2020)

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of Industry, and the Federation of Thai Industries are cooperating to provide car repair service centers that aim to help reduce PM 2.5 airborne dust in Bangkok and surrounding areas. In addition, the project includes 450 garages where discounts for engine oil, spare parts, and free labor will be provided for the general public. (12/02/2020)
The government has ordered the Department of Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation (DRRAA) to review the annual royal rainmaking action plan, in order to effectively alleviate the drought problem for people in all regions. Due to the drought situation and the severe problems of airborne dust, the department will commence its annual rainmaking operations earlier than usual this year, starting on February 17. Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha had ordered officials to resolve the problem of profiteers stockpiling of face masks and alcohol gel, which has resulted in a jump in the prices of the items. People may now buy face masks and sanitizer gel at various government agencies including the Ministry of Commerce. The products are being distributed to all districts nationwide through the Commerce Ministry-sponsored Blue Flag stores. The masks will be sold at a price of 2.50 - 5 baht per piece depending on their quality. (10/02/2020)
According to the Cabinets approved of a proposal to merge TOT and CAT Telecom, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society disclosed plans to establish the National Telecommunications (NT) Company. The Ministry will hire advisors who specialize in legal issues, mergers, and human resources to study the business plan and all related activities. The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has launched a campaign named Green City Initiative by MOAC to tackle the air pollution problem and high levels of PM 2.5. This project aims to distribute seedlings of six plants that are known to be effective in absorbing air pollution at Siam Paragon Shopping Complex. After the campaign kicks off, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and private partners will continue to distribute seedlings to people in Bangkok. The six plants can be planted indoors and outdoors for helping absorb air pollution and build the immune system for Bangkok in the long term. (09/02/2020)

The Government is selling face masks at a low price, 10 for 25 baht, at Government House, starting from 7 February 2020. The public can buy the masks at gate 6 and the public service center, in front of gate 4. The sales will continue for 15 days. This campaign enables people to purchase cheaper face masks for protecting themselves against the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV). (07/02/2020)

The Department of Land Transport has been encouraging taxi drivers to wear protective masks at all times while driving, as well as clean their vehicles before and after picking up passengers in order to maintain passenger trust. The department also encouraged public transport drivers to protect themselves by wearing protective masks at all times. In addition, health authorities in all provinces have been raising greater awareness on the prevention of local transmissions of coronavirus, especially among tour operators serving Chinese clients. The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society revealed that the Cabinet has approved Thailands candidature for a seat on the Council of Administration (CA) and Postal Operations Council (POC) at the 27th Universal Postal Union (UPU), which will be held during the period of 10-28 August 2020 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. The CA and POC membership will enhance the development and efficiency of Thailand Post to make it on a par with the international standard, and to underscore Thailands role on the international stage. The Ministry of Public Health is inviting the general public to join a Big Cleaning Week campaign to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus through good hygiene, while also calling on local hospitals and public health offices to inform residents of useful ways to prevent the spread of infection. The launch of the program aimed at encouraging members of the public to keep their houses and public places clean over a two-week period starting on February 5, 2020. (05/02/2020)
Suvarnabhumi Airport has taken a higher level of hygiene measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus 2019. All public transport operators have been asked to pay more attention to the cleanliness of their vehicles and service counters, while all airport officials must wear a protective mask at all times. The protective masks are also being distributed to public transport drivers and passengers. Hand sanitizers are placed at service counters, and public vehicle seats, door handles, and other areas will be cleaned with disinfectants. (05/02/2020)

A total of 138 Thai citizens who have been living in Wuhan, China -- the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak -- have returned to Thailand. Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul also revealed that the Thai Lion Air will prepare flights to bring back more Thais from other Chinese cities from February 5th to 8th. A flight with a medical team departed from Thailand at 07.28 hr on Tuesday, 4 February, to pick up Thai citizens in Wuhan, China. The flight arrived at the destination at 10.40 hr. All passengers will be examined after arriving in Thailand. Infected patients will be sent to a hospital and the rest will be quarantined for 14 days. (04/02/2020)
