The Foundation for Good Governance of Medicine (GGM) has joined forces with members of its network to establish FIGHT COVID, a volunteer program aimed at assisting state efforts against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in areas with a lack of manpower. The program is assembling essential medical equipment for distribution to hospitals nationwide. It has already amassed 1,000 items of personal protective equipment (PPE) kits for medical workers from the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), along with a large quantity of face masks, alcohol gels, medication and disinfectant. Volunteers will also promote knowledge on protection against COVID-19 to the public. (24/03/2020)
The Minister Attached to the Prime Ministers Office invited the representatives of 17 food delivery service companies to a meeting on preventive measures for food delivery to combat the spread of COVID-19. The Minister believed that if every sector would provide serious and strict cooperation, in accordance with the measures introduced by the Ministry of Public Health, the spread of COVID-19 would soon be within peoples control. Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research plans to mobilize a community kitchen project, by applying Thai conventional wisdom and technology, under the theme "Shared, use, everyone gets benefits." This project will adopt shared production service models in order to create food production and services for each community, such as fruits and seafood, which can develop sustainable local innovation. This easy-to-use messaging service has the potential to reach 2 billion people and enables WHO to get information directly into the hands of the people that need it. The service can be contact +41 22 501 76 55 that opens a conversation on WhatsApp. Users can simply type hi to activate the conversation, prompting a menu of options that can help answer their questions about COVID-19. A partial and temporary shutdown of department stores and a slew of establishments in Bangkok is being enforced by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. The partial shutdown order came into force on Sunday, and affects establishments such as beauty salons, driving ranges, swimming pools, exhibition centers, schools, and childcare centers in addition to malls and markets. Those failing to comply could face a fine of no more than 100,000 baht or a 1-year imprisonment, or a combination of both. (23/03/2020)
As many sectors have adopted a Work from Home policy, and because of the closure of risk places, many people have been traveling back to their hometown. The Department of Disease Control and the National Communicable Disease Committee have urged provincial governors to prepare for monitoring and quarantining any infected people arriving in their districts and villages. The Cabinet has approved a resolution for the 10th of May of each year to be National Mangrove Day. The mangrove forests are significant resources both in terms of economic, social, and environmental aspects. In 2019, the National Committee for Marine Resources and Coastal Management Plan and Policy, approved the proposal to mark 10 May every year as National Mangrove Day to remember the very first occasion His Majesty King Rama IX spoke about the conservation of mangrove forests on 10 May 1991, which has consequently created awareness among all concerned sectors to conserve mangrove forests. The army began the cleaning operation throughout Bangkok on Thursday morning by spraying roads with disinfectant to combat the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19.) The Department of Employment has announced that they will change the process of renewing migrant workers' permits, to avoid the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The one-stop service center, which has the Immigration Bureau and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration operating in the same place, will be temporarily canceled. Dr. Porntep Siriwanarangsun, of the Social Security Office (SSO), affirmed that in case of COVID-19 infection, every insured person can be normally hospitalized according to their rights, and the Government will be responsible for all medical expenses. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues in all parts of the world, social distancing measures are being heavily encouraged, one of which is for companies to allow their employees to work from home. Ministry of a Digital Economy and Society (MDES) has joined forces with telecommunications operators and platform providers to support online work. Platform providers are offering tools and applications on which users can collaborate in their work, edit and store documents, and create a virtual meeting with up to 200 participants. Surat Thani has launched strict measures to combat the COVID-19 situation, as follows: 1. All passengers who arrive in Surat Thani at the 2 airports (Koh Samui island and Surat Thani mainland) must pass the temperature checkpoints, wear hygienic masks, and wash their hands with alcohol or hand wash gel before leaving the airports; 2. All bus passengers must wash their hands with alcohol or hand wash gel before departure or after arrival; 3. All island or mainland visitors must wash their hands with alcohol or hand wash gel before boarding planes/buses. Remarks: 1) Joining any activities/gatherings in crowded places should be avoided; 2) Always try to eat cooked food, use separate spoons, wash your hands, and avoid going into any crowded places. The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has unveiled two mobile applications for tracking quarantined individuals. The two apps -- "AOT Airports" and "SydeKick for ThaiFightCOVID" -- can now be used to track passengers and people who are under home quarantine. Both are now available on both Android and IOS. Those arriving from risk countries are required to use the apps, which will track them via their accommodations and contact information provided. (18/03/2020)
The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand has announced the process of applying for the return of electricity meter deposits. This measure will proceed this month by allowing people to fill out a form at the electricity authority office in their area, either the Metropolitan Electricity Authority or the Provincial Electricity Authority, or online. The Cabinet has approved measures for helping people who have been affected by the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The electricity and water fees will be reduced by 3% for three months. Those bill payments for hotels and rental residents can be delayed up to six months without cutting the public utilities off. The Director-General of the Department of Local Administration (DLA) disclosed that local administrative organizations, in cooperation with local communities nationwide, have produced and distributed 5,038,321 quality fabric hygienic masks to the general public in many areas already. The Government plans to turn Thailand into an electric vehicle (EV) hub in five years under several promotional measures. The national strategies focus on the environment, solutions to air pollution, and the transition of the Thai automotive industry to electric vehicles. The Government has instructed the Board of Investment (BOI) to find more promotional privileges for investment in the production of electric vehicle parts, including batteries, and to support the import of less expensive batteries.
