Major Cabinet Resolutions Related to COVID-19 Situation

9 April 2020 (Readers 972)

The Cabinet on 7 April 2020 approved and acknowledged the following major issues concerning the COVID-19 situation:

- Postponement of the beginning of schools first semester (2020 academic year) from 16 May 2020 to 1 July 2020;

- Free electricity for three months (April-June 2020): Houses with a power meter size not over 5 amps will be granted 90 units of free electricity per month;

- Extension of the payment deadline of electricity bills for April-June 2020 for another six months (of each billing cycle) without any penalty for houses with a power meter size not over 5 amps;

- Approval of the third phase of COVID-19 remedy measures (for the total amount of 1.9 trillion baht);

- Executive Decree on loans for remedy and rehabilitation, and economic stimulus purposes;

- Executive Decree authorizing the Bank of Thailand to provide soft loans for the business sector, especially SMEs;

- Executive Decree on the stabilization of the corporate bond market;

- Approval of 801 million baht, to be allocated from the central fund, for procurement and distribution of hygienic masks (April-October 2020). Masks will be distributed to high-risk people across the country.
