Government Strives to Improve Enabling Environment and Facilities for People with Disabilities

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha stated that the Government is striving to improve enabling environment and facilities for people with disabilities through technology and innovation. It has also promoted social participation through the integrative cooperation of all sectors under the "Pracharat for Society" policy.


In his statement to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3 December 2018, the Prime Minister stressed the Thai governments efforts to develop the quality of life of people with disabilities. The Government has also promoted their access to public services and fundamental rights, as well as their occupational opportunities in both public and private agencies.


In 2019, the Government will implement a plan to improve facilities for people with disabilities in public spaces, i.e., tourist attractions, historical sites, and public buildings, in order to provide them with easier access to those places.


The Prime Minister urged all Thai people to extend moral and physical support to people with disabilities, empower them, and give them chances to demonstrate their capabilities and abilities that enable them to coexist in society with dignity and grace.


Each year the United Nations celebrates "International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3 December and calls on member countries to implement activities to promote an understanding of disability issues and encourage people with disabilities to take part constructively and equally in the life and development of their societies.


This year, the theme is set as "Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality," which focuses on the empowering persons with disabilities for the inclusive, equitable and sustainable development envisaged in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, without leaving anyone behind.
