Elders Needed in Tourism Industry

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports plans to hire local retirees to help with taking care of tourists at local attractions.
"The Amazing Thai Host, a project that is in accordance with the Pracharat strategy, is aimed at supporting the Governments elderly care plan by hiring local elders that have special skills and want some income after retirement to be volunteers to assist and facilitate tourists visiting local attractions. The pilot project is set for 44 provincial attractions in the North.
This kind of project has beensuccessfully adopted as a model in over 20 countries across the world, such as Japan, South Korea, Canada, and others.
The project has been adopted in the northern provinces of Thailand Chiang Rai, Phayao, Phrae, and Nan since 1 May 2017. The 152 chosen retirees, who will be trained and certified, will stand by at their own provinces attractions.
They will work five hours per day, 3-4 days a week, to facilitate tourists and to coordinate with local agencies. After being trained, the volunteers will receive an ID card with the "Amazing Thai Host" logo.
The project is expected to support the coming"aged society in Thailand by offering part-time jobs and bringing about a better life quality for Thai senior citizens, who will gain more income and boost the popularity of provincial tourism.
