People Urged to Join the Event Bike for Mom and Other Related Activities

Around 300,000 cycling enthusiasts nationwide are expected to join the mass bicycle ride event "Bike for Mom 2015, as part of the celebrations for Her Majesty the Queens 83rd birthday anniversary. This bike ride will be a historic moment and become the biggest cycling event ever held in Thailand.
 
In his televised national address on 7 August 2015 in the program "Return Happiness to the People, Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha invited all groups of people to take part in this event as a tribute to Her Majesty the Queen and for their good health. The event will be held simultaneously in all provinces nationwide on Sunday, 16 August 2015, from 3:00 p.m. onwards.
 
The Prime Minister thanked all relevant agencies for their cooperation in arranging this event. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, who will lead a convoy of cyclists in Bangkok, was concerned about the safety of cyclists. He urged officials to proceed with caution and prevent any road accidents.
 
In Bangkok, the ride will begin at the Royal Plaza and continue to the 11th Infantry Regiment, the Kings Guard, on Phahonyothin Road and then return, for a total length of 43 kilometers. Bangkok alone is likely to see the participation of about 40,000 cyclists.
 
Medical teams will be on hand throughout this event. Participating cyclists will wear blue shirts. The blue color represents Friday, the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen. His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, who initiated this event, has granted blue T-shirts and pins that have been distributed to both participating officials and cyclists in the Bike for Mom event.
 
Director-General of the Government Public Relations Department (PRD) Apinan Juntarungsri said that PRD had coordinated with the Guinness World Records organization to send its staff to observe this event, in the hope that the historic mass bicycle ride would set a new world record for the largest number of cyclists riding simultaneously. Taiwan currently holds the record for 72,919 cyclists joining a mass bicycle ride event. Barcodes will be distributed to participating cyclists to help the Guinness World Records team scan and count their numbers.
 
On 16 August, there will be a concert entitled "Songs for Mother at Sanam Sua Pa in Bangkok, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Also at Sanam Sua Pa, an exhibition in honor of Her Majesty the Queen will be held. The exhibition features the joined forces of all sectors and Thai people in 77 provinces, to make Bike for Mom a tribute to Her Majesty, who is recognized as the "Mother of the Land.
 
The Ministry of Culture also invites everyone to join the Bike for Mom photo contest. Applicants should submit photos taken from the activities from 25 July to 16 August 2015 as part of this event. They should submit their entries by 23 August 2015. Results of the contest will be announced on 5 September 2015.
