Thailand and Hainan of China to Sign MOU on Trade Cooperation Soon

Prime Minister and Defense Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has underscored Thailands readiness to enhance cooperation with Hainan, China, especially on trade, investment, and tourism. Thailand and Hainan will soon sign a memorandum of understanding on trade cooperation.

The Prime Minister delivered a keynote speech via a teleconference at the opening ceremony of the 1st China International Consumer Products Expo (Hainan Expo), held at Haikou in Hainan province on 7-10 May 2021, under the theme "An Open China, a Pioneering Hainan.

According to Government Spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri, the Prime Minister reiterated Thailands cooperation with China to develop "comprehensive strategic partnership in all dimensions for the best interest of the people of the two countries, the region, and the global community.

He commended Chinas successful and effective response to COVID-19, as a result of which the Hainan Expo could be organized. The participation of the Thai Government and entrepreneurs in the Hainan Expo reflects Thailands commitment to proceed according to the agreement made during the latest meeting between the Thai Prime Minister and President Xi Jinping.

The meeting discussed the strengthening of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, connecting with the world economy through China's Hainan Free Trade Port policy and the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" initiative. This would help maintain the global multilateral trading system and improve the global industrial and supply chains.

The Hainan Expo was organized by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and Hainan province, aimed at promoting Hainan as an international tourism center and developing it into a world-class free trade port in the future.
