Prime Minister of Thailand Prayut Chan-o-cha has used Article 44 of the interim constitution to exempt fees for migrant workers from Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia to return home during the Songkran holiday.
However, the migrant workers who possess pink work permits must receive permission from their employers for home leave and return to Thailand no later than April 20.
Known as Songkran in Thailand and Laos, the Buddhist New Year is also celebrated in Cambodia as Khmer New Year and in Myanmar as Thingyan.
Labor Minister Sirichai Distakul said the exemption of the fees was aimed at forging good relations with neighboring countries and improving the image of Thailand's treatment of foreign workers. For further information, please call Hotline 1694.
